August 25th MLB Pick

*MLB(1u): Giants ML(+103) @ Mets–6:10 PM CT

This line is extremely fishy, but the love we’re seeing the Mets get from the oddsmakers is not warranted. Mets SP Taijuan Walker had a great first half to the season, but he has simply not been the same pitcher he was just a month ago. Compared to a 2.50 ERA in his first 16 starts, his last 7 starts has seen his ERA jump all the way up to 3.86. This San Francisco lineup handles righties very well, especially in the power department. While lefties have struggled against Walker this season and the Giants figure to stack lefties per usual, they’ve proven all season long that they have what it takes to come through. Giants SP Johnny Cueto is well past his prime, but he has plenty left in the tank to hold down this Mets lineup tonight. We all know the Mets’ lineup looks good on paper, but until they can put it together in real games, I’m not going to trust them. They were shut out by the SFG staff last night and have been totally unreliable all year(29th in runs this season). The Giants bullpen didn’t have to expend any of their main pieces last night, and while NYM didn’t need to either, the Giants have a +0.24 advantage in bullpen WHIP. The situation around the Giants feels somewhat similar to what we saw with the New York Knicks this past NBA season; the oddsmakers consistently undervalue them only to be made a fool of once the game is played. I’m more than willing to take the Giants tonight at a plus-price.
