Congrats to all Rory McIlroy backers at the Genesis Scottish Open. It was great to see Rory rally Sunday down the stretch to capture his second win of the season.
Vincent Norrman came through for us at the Barbasol Championship. It was great to hit our second outright in the past three weeks!
Let’s get into this week’s storylines…
This is an unusual event on the PGA Tour as it’s a modified Stableford format. Par earns a player 0 points, while a birdie earns a player +2 points, an eagle +5 points, and an albatross earns +8 points. On the other hand, bogeys are penalized as they earn a player -1 points, and a double bogey earns a player -3 points. Unlike other tournaments on the PGA Tour, the goal of this event is to earn the highest score.
This points scale encourages aggressive play since the reward for scoring under par is higher than the penalty for scoring over par. The maximum score is two strokes over par; once a player has made his shot and is one stroke over par, he may concede, pick up the ball, take a double bogey, and proceed to the next hole without penalty.

Course/ Tournament History:
The Barracuda Championship was founded in 1999. It’s an alternate event so the FedEx Cup Points are cut to 300 and the winner does not earn an invite to the Masters Tournament. However, the winner does receive a two-year two exemption and entry to the PGA Championship.
Originally the event was called the Reno-Tahoe Open and was held at Montrêux Golf and Country Club. In 2014, Barracuda Networks became the title sponsor and changed the name of the event. Six years later in 2020, the tournament moved to its current venue, Tahoe Mountain Club. In 2022, this event became a co-sanctioned event with the DP World Tour.
The event takes place on Old Greenwood this week, one of two 18-hole courses at Tahoe Mountain Club. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus and completed in 2020.
- 72-Hole Record:
- +50, Erik Van Rooyen (2021)
- 18-Hole Record:

The Field/ Odds:
There will be 144 players competing in this year’s Barracuda Championship. Only five of the world’s top one hundred players are in the field. Here are the current favorites in this week’s event:
Stephan Jaeger (+1800) will play in his fourth Barracuda Championship. In his first three starts at this event, he’s finished MC/ 42/ T22. He’s been playing pretty well as of late finishing T13 at the John Deere Classic and T9 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Taylor Pendrith (+2000) has some of the best course history at Tahoe Mountain Club finishing T13 in 2021 and T11 in 2022. He also enters this week in great form finishing 6th at the Barbasol Championship and T14 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Keith Mitchell (+2000) will make his debut at the Barracuda Championship this week. He hasn’t won an event since the 2019 Honda Classic. Mitchell enters this week’s event off a missed cut at the Genesis Scottish Open. Before that, he finished T42 at the John Deere Classic and T20 at the U.S. Open.
Mark Hubbard (+2200) finished 4th at the 2022 Barbasol Championship. In his only other appearance at Tahoe Mountain, Hubbard finished T43 in 2021. He’s coming off a T6 finish at the John Deere Classic. In his last six starts on the PGA Tour, he has three top-10 finishes.
