The Jacksonville Dolphins will head north up the coast to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers this afternoon at Petersen Events Center. The Dolphins enter with a 7-3 record and are on a 3-game winning streak after crushing Webber International by 39 points on Saturday and the Panthers improved to 4-7 after beating St. John’s by 2 points on the road in their last time out. Jacksonville is scoring 67.4 points per game on 45.1% shooting against defenses who are giving up 75 points per game and 46.5% from the field and, on defense, they are limiting the opposition to 54.1 points on 38.5% shooting versus offenses averaging 62.6 points per game on 39.7% from the floor. On the other hand, Pitt scores 60.4 points per game on 40.9% from the field against defenses that surrender 66.1 points per game and 41.1% shooting. Defensively, they limit teams to 64.5 points per game on 41.4% from the floor versus offenses putting up 73 points on 44.3% shooting. There will be no hurry to push the ball up the floor in this one as both squads have a preference for slow-down basketball. Pittsburgh is 334th nationally in game pace while Jacksonville currently ranks 305th. The Dolphins also rank 303rd in adjusted offensive efficiency and own the 352nd average possession length (19.9 seconds) while the Panther own the247th ranked adjusted offensive efficiency and the 322nd average possession length (18.9 seconds). Both of these defenses should be licking their chops as they rank 133th (Jax) and 54th (Pitt) in defensive effective field goal percentage. This is going to be an ugly, slow paced game that will not feature many points. The total is low for a reason as I can see this landing under 100.
