After getting reversed swept, we had a nice rebound night going 2-1. We’re now 19-8-1 in our last 28. On the year we’re up 29.52 Units with a 7.8% ROI. We only have four games taking place across the NHL tonight. I’ll break down a few key matchups along with my best bets and a few player props to take a look at.
Key Matchups:
New York Rangers @ Buffalo Sabres
- Time: 7:00 PM ET
- New York Rangers: 44-21-10, 3rd Metropolitan (22-9-6 Away)
- Buffalo Sabres: 35-31-7, 5th Atlantic (14-20-4 Home)
Team | Opening ML | Current ML | Spread | Total |
New York Rangers | -145 | -145 | -1.5 (+165) | o6.5 (-130) |
Buffalo Sabres | +125 | +125 | +1.5 (-195) | u6.5 (+110) |
The New York Rangers are coming off a 2-1 loss against the New Jersey Devils last night. They’re currently the 3rd seed in the Metropolitan Division four points behind the team they most recently lost to. New York has been playing well as of late going 7-2-1 in their last ten games. They’ll face a Buffalo Sabres team that still has an outside chance of making the playoffs. As of now, they’re seven points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins who have the second wild card spot. The Sabres do have two games in hand on them so every point is crucial from here on. Buffalo has been in a little slump going 3-4-3 in their last ten. Devon Levi will make his NHL debut for the Sabres tonight so that is something to monitor.
Picks:
[All plays are to win 1 Unit unless otherwise noted]
- New York Rangers/ Buffalo Sabres Under 6.5 (+115) – BetMGM
I know this won’t be a popular play as I have seen several other handicappers touting the over in this matchup. I understand the angle but I’m going to go with the reverse side tonight. The Sabres will have Devon Levi make his first career NHL start tonight. He’s been fantastic in his past two seasons at NorthEastern and has proven capable of dominating at every level. While this will certainly be a step up for him tonight, I think we see a better effort from Buffalo defensively to limit high-danger chances. Opposite of Levi, will be Jaroslav Halak. While he is the backup, he’s been solid this season with a +2.0 GSAx (Goals Saved Above Expected). Historically, he’s had success against the Sabres only allowing two goals in his last four matchups against them. On the road, New York has played more low-scoring games. The Sabres’ offense has also been worse at home this season averaging 3.53 GF/G compared to 3.60 GF/G on the road. Most recently, these teams matched up early this month where New York won 2-1 in a shootout. I wouldn’t be shocked if we a similar result tonight.
- Calgary Flames in Regulation (+110) – DraftKings
The Flames are two points out of the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference so every point matters. As most would agree, they’ve had a disappointing season. They did have some major turnover in the offseason but they also acquired a lot of new talent as well. Calgary has been playing much better hockey as of late winning three of their last four games. Despite being out of playoff contention, the Canucks haven’t thrown in the towel yet. However, this game means more to Calgary and I think they use their newfound momentum to propel themselves to a win tonight.
