Happy new week, people! Yesterday sucked, which figures since it’s the first day I got a few new premium customers (welcome, studs!), but we’re still 12-4 for +14 units the past 6 days. Not too shabby.
Today’s slate is pretty rough. On paper it’s bad – we have 4 road favorites against mostly pretty desperate teams. Proceed with extra caution today; the All-Star break is around the corner and weird shit happens at this time of year. I’ll try to be as judicious as possible with my selections. As always, let me know if you have any Qs.
NBA Picks
- Raptors -2.5 *
- Only 1 unit here because Charlotte really needs a win and Toronto is on the road, but there’s a few things I really like about this spot for the Raptors. First, they finally got some needed rest. They’ve been running their starters hard. Secondly, they’re up a good 5 spots above the Hornets in my power ratings and this line is small, and very achievable. Finally, the Raptors are the exact kind of team that’s given Charlotte trouble over the last few games (4 losses in a row). Toronto plays slow, they’re sharks at the rim, they have talented mid-range shooters, and they can dominate in the front court. Night night Hornets, I think the Raptors get another W and cover.
- Suns -7.5 *
- Another one unit play because the Suns are on the road, yadda yadda, but I’m just not sure the Bulls are a very good basketball team these days. LaVine is banged up with back problems and may not play, and the Suns are healthy and probably still angry after that recent loss against ATL, which ended their 11-game winning streak. Phoenix is the BEST team in the NBA right now, they do everything right, and Chicago has looked very clumsy and mistake prone. Another big ugly favorite on the road, but I’ll take it.
CBB Picks:
- George Mason +8 *
- I think they stay in this game b/c of their 3-point shooting. Richmond isn’t very good at preventing the long ball.
- Southern -10
- Alabama St. is a VERY bad basketball team, and Southern is the class of that conference. Should coast at home.
