The Masters is finally here and it has only been 4.5 months since Dustin Johnson was given that highly coveted green jacket from Tiger Woods. This is a very tough course and usually the best Golfers are the ones who win it all. This course in Augusta favors two kinds of golfers. First, the hard hitters can set themselves up for easier approach shots. You want to be able to hit the ball high so the ball stays put on these slippery greens. Second, golfers that are left handed or play a draw tend to hit more greens than golfers that hit a fade.
First and foremost, I am playing Dustin Johnson for a massive recency bias. He just won this thing 4.5 months ago and had a massive 5 stroke cushion. Dustin can crush the ball with an average driving distance of 313 yards. Second, I am playing John Rahm. Rahm just had a child and has been improving his game over the last 2 years. Rahm had finished 4th, 9th, and 7th in the last 3 Masters tournaments. He could be due for a huge weekend. Last, least, but still a great price is Brian Harman. Brian is a lefty that could make some noise this weekend. I like how he finished 3rd in the players championship last weekend. We have a few other long shots for premium subscribers and will be playing a few more favorites that are just a few shots back on Friday night.
TO WIN THE MASTERS:
Duston Johnson 9-1 – 1 star premium shared
John Rahm 12-1 – 1 star premium shared
Brian Harman 175-1 – .5 star premium shared
MATCHUP:
Collin Morikawa +100 to beat Brooks Koepka – 1 star premium shared – Koepka is a very public play to win the masters with his numbers now going below 25-1, but if you look at most of his matchups, the golfers that are less of a favorite to win it are somehow favorites to beat Koepka head to head. The reason for this is due to the fact that Oddsmakers know that Brooks hasn’t played since February and he is coming off knee surgery while the public is betting the game to win. I think that there is a significant chance that Brooks struggles during this tournament due to the rust and I will take the golfer with the most favorable odds to beat him head to head in this tournament.
