Yankees -120 at Red Sox (9.5)
Can you find a better spot to back the Yanks? I handicap horses as well on a consistent basis and when I see a spot like this I would say: they are ready to roll! That’s what appears to be in store for the Pinstripes this weekend. Pissed off, have not been playing well, drama, Boone fighting with reporters, I could go on and on, but I won’t. The Rays came in and took 2/3 after the break, then the Mets embarrassed them with their 2-game set. Fast forward. They got a day off, had been home in their beds for a week and a half and very little travel was required to head to Boston to take on their nemesis. As far as the home team, they were shipped out to California after the All-Star break, getting swept by the Dodgers, then lost 2 of 3 in Denver giving up 29 runs in the 2 losses. I think the travel will catch up with them in game 1 of this series once the adrenaline wears off.
We have an intriguing pitching matchup to start the gigantic weekend series with Nestor vs Bello, and you can make plenty of cons for each pitcher. Bello just hasn’t seemed to have it in 2024, and now has to face a hungry Yankee lineup, at home, nonetheless, look out! Bello sporting a 6.20 ERA at home in 24’, with a WHIP of 1.65. Lefties hitting .272, with a WHIP of 1.52 and has given up 10 home runs to lefties this year, could a Soto bomb be in store tonight? The last 10 games the Yanks have crushed righties, hitting .269, 5.6 runs per 9, 6.5 hits, 1.3 HR’s and 3.2 BB’s. Combine all this with a taxed/struggling (5.73 ERA L10) Boston bullpen, Judge and company could put up some ugly numbers tonight.
Now, can we back Nestor? I believe we can. Most of your heavy hitters are lefties for Boston which should spell trouble for the Red Sox. Lefties hitting .214 vs Cortes this season, 27.2 strikeout %, only 4.5 BB% and has given up one homer to L’s in 2024. I know his road troubles, we all do at this point this year, which I believe will make him even more focused to go out there and pitch well tonight. 5/6 innings is all we need with the bullpen advantage NY holds tonight. They have guys rested to come in and get outs, if need be. Once we get to the 9th, Holmes has incredible numbers vs Boston to put it away.
