New York Yankees @ Tampa Bay Rays
This is the rubber game of this series as the Yankees look to get closer to first place and the Rays look to extend their lead in the AL East.
The Yankees are sending Masahiro Tanaka to the mound. Tanaka has pitched 15 innings on the road giving up 10 runs, good for a 5.17 ERA. His K rate is down and walk rate is up as well. He holds a FIP of 6.16 and xFIP of 5.09, so this is pretty much what we should expect going forward. He’s also giving up a 50% hard hit rate.
The Rays send out Blake Snell who looked dominant his last time out. He’s pitched 22 innings at home to a tune of a 2.82 ERA. Carrying an 83.3% left on base percentage, a 3.73 FIP and 2.89 xFIP, it’s hard not to like his chances here.
The Yankees have also had a pretty sub-par lineup with all of their injuries so far this year. If Snell can get through the top half of the lineup unscathed, he should fare well against the bottom 2/3 of it.
