The Los Angeles Dodgers visit the Philadelphia Phillies for the second game of a 3-game set at Citizens Bank Park. Veteran lefty David Price will get the nod for the Dodgers. He owns a 4-1 record with a 3.53 ERA and 1.37 WHIP across 51 innings pitched this season. Price has had his struggles on the road this season producing a 4.24 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and a 4.89 FIP. The Phillies will counter with newly acquired Kyle Gibson. The right-hander has posted an excellent 2.79 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 125.2 innings pitched on the year. Gibson has posted great stats at home this season but they did come at a pitcher’s park in Texas and may not be as great in Philly. I am judging this but comparing his home/away splits where he owns a 4.72 xFIP on the road compared to his 3.70 xFIP at home/Texas this year. Philly’s bats have been hot lately ranking in the top 10 in homeruns, runs, OPS, ISO, wOBA and wRC+ in the past week. Additionally, the Dodgers and Phillies have thrived this month owning a 7th and 8th ranked wOBA, respectively. Furthermore, Philly has earned a 7th ranked wOBA (.330) versus left-handed pitching this season while the Dodgers rank 3rd in wOBA (.330) and wRC+ (104) on the road versus right-handed pitching. Also worth noting, the market is moving towards the over tonight. Take OVER 10 runs.
The St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates meet tonight for the middle game of a three-game NL Central series at PNC Park. Veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright is the set to hone the mound for the Cardinals. He is 10-6 with a 3.48 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in 139 2/3 innings pitched over 22 starts. Has a 2.67 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in his last four road starts, which includes facing the hard-hitting San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves and one start at Coors Field. Additionally, Wainwright has pitched to a 1.01 WHIP and 3.69 xFIP over 33.2 innings in the second half so far. Righty Wil Crowe will step to the mound for the Pirates. In 17 games (16 starts) this season, Crowe is 3-6 with a 5.47 ERA and1.56 WHIP in 75 2/3 innings pitched. No matter how you spin it, Crowe has not been good this season but St. Louis bats do not fare well versus right-handed pitching on the road this season. The Cardinals rank in the bottom 3rd of the majors in batting average (.230) and wRC+ (87) against righties on the road this year. The Pirates, too, have had their struggles offensively all season long and continuously rank in the lower 3rd of the league in every single major hitting statistic. St Louis has a bullpen that has been pitching better as of late by owning a 1.17 WHIP and 3.91 ERA in the past month. Pittsburgh’s pen has been horrible this season, however they have improved a bit pitching to a 1.30 WHIP in the past 7 days. My handicapping has St Louis continuing to struggle against righties while being on the road with Crowe giving up a couple runs but improving on his 3.92 ERA in the second half. Take UNDER 9 runs
