The NHL returns after a brief one-day hiatus. I’m going to keep today’s article pretty short but I should have a more detailed one on Wednesday. As always I appreciate the support! Let’s break down today’s slate.

Game Previews:

Arizona Coyotes @ Toronto Maple Leafs

The Arizona Coyotes have started off the season like most expected, 0-2. They currently have the 3rd worst goal differential at -7. To give the Coyotes some credit, they have played two solid teams in Boston and Pittsburgh. Toronto has won their last two games after being upset in their season opener by the Canadiens.

ARI: K. Vejmelka (0-2-0), 5.55 GAA, 0.884 SV&

Anaheim Ducks @ New York Rangers

The Ducks had an impressive comeback win against the Kraken in their season opener. On Saturday, the Islanders completely dismantled them winning 7-1. The Rangers have started the season 2-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of the Winnipeg Jets.

ANA: J. Gibson (1-1-0), 5.35 GAA, 0.880 SV%

Vancouver Canucks @ Washington Capitals

VAN: T. Demko (0-0-0), 3.62 GAA, 0.873 SV%

WSH: D. Kuemper (1-1-0), 2.54 GAA, 0.902 SV%

Florida Panthers @ Boston Bruins

The Florida Panthers and the Boston Bruins have both started the season off 2-0. Florida defeated the Islanders and Sabres by a combined score of 7-4. Boston has looked extremely impressive defeating the Capitals 5-2 and the Coyotes 6-3.

FLA: S. Bobrovsky (1-0-0), 1.00 GAA, 0.970 SV%

BOS: L. Ullmark (1-0-0), 2.00 GAA, 0.943 SV%

Colorado Avalanche @ Minnesota Wild

Colorado has started the season 1-1 with their sole loss coming in Calgary. The Wild are 0-2, dropping games to the Rangers and Kings.

COL: A. Georgiev (1-0-0), 2.00 GAA, 0.882 SV%

MIN: F. Gustavsson (0-1-0), 4.74 GAA, 0.850 SV%

Winnipeg Jets @ Dallas Stars

The Jets opened their season up with a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers. Dallas is also undefeated starting the season 2-0 defeating Nashville twice.

SEA: P. Grubauer (0-0-1), 3.70 GAA, 0.848 SV%

Pick(s):

  • Colorado Avalanche ml (-122) – Barstool
    • Risk 0.30 to win 0.25 Units

The Avalanche will look to rebound after losing 5-3 to Calgary on Thursday. They’ve had a few days off and should be well-rested for tonight’s matchup. Minnesota has yet to win a game this season losing to the Rangers and the Kings. In both of those games, they allowed seven goals against. Colorado’s offense is much better than both those teams and should be able to exploit Minnesota’s weak defensive unit.

  • Winnipeg Jets/ Dallas Stars Under 6.5 (-134) – Barstool
    • Risk 0.34 to win 0.25 Units

The Jets and the Stars enter this game both undefeated. Winnipeg has only played one game so far and were able to hold the Rangers to just one goal. Dallas shut down Nashville only allowing two goals combined in their first two games. Both of these teams are extremely impressive defensively. When you combine that with two top-tier goaltenders in Connor Hellebuyck and Jake Oettinger, I like this game to stay under the total.

Player Props to Target:

  • William Nylander over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-175) – Barstool
    • William Nylander has started the year off strong going over this number in each of his first three games. Last season against the Coyotes, he recorded over 2.5 Shots on Goal in both matchups.
  • Auston Matthews over 4.5 Shots on Goal (-127) – Caesars
    • Auston Matthews has recorded over 4.5 Shots on Goal in each of the first three games this season. Last season against the Coyotes, he recorded over 4.5 Shots on Goal in both matchups.
  • Mikko Rantanen over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-145) – Caesars
    • Mikko Rantanen has recorded over 2.5 Shots on Goal in each of his last nine games against the Minnesota Wild! This year, he’s gone over this number once in the first two games.
  • Jason Robertson over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-129) – Caesars
    • Jason Roberston recorded over 4.5 Shots on Goal in all four matchups against the Winnipeg Jets last year. This year, he’s gone over this number in both of the first two games.
  • Alexander Ovechkin over 0.5 Power Play Points (+105) – DraftKings
    • The Vancouver Canucks currently have the second-worst Penalty Kill Percentage as a team (55.6%). Last season, Alex Ovechkin recorded at least one Power Play point against the Canucks in both matchups.
