We have ten games taking place across the NHL tonight. I’ll break down a few key matchups along with my best bets.
Key Matchups:
Buffalo Sabres @ New Jersey Devils
- Time: 7:00 PM ET
- Buffalo Sabres: 40-32-7, 5th Atlantic (24-12-3 Away)
- New Jersey Devils: 50-22-8, 2nd Metropolitan (23-13-4 Home)
Team | Opening ML | Current ML | Spread | Total |
Buffalo Sabres | -205 | -215 | +1.5 (-125) | o7.0 (+105) |
New Jersey Devils | +170 | +185 | -1.5 (+105) | u7.0 (-125) |
With three games to go, the Buffalo Sabres are still in the playoff hunt. For the first time in twelve years, they have won forty games. Behind the play of rookie Devon Levi, the Sabres have won four of their last five with him in net. This game also means something for the Devils as they’re in a battle with the Carolina Hurricanes for the top spot in the Metropolitan Divison. Luke Hughes will be making his debut for the Devils tonight after his Michigan Wolverines were eliminated in the semifinals of the NCAA Championship.
Picks:
[All plays are to win 1 Unit unless otherwise noted]
- Pittsburgh Penguins 1P -0.5 (-120) – DraftKings
It’s a tale of two stories tonight, the Pittsburgh Penguins need to win to keep themselves in the Eastern Conference Wild Card race while the Blackhawks are hoping to lose to give themselves the best chance at Connor Bedard. The moneyline and puckline are unplayable here so we’re going to get creative and back the Penguins to be leading after the first period. Over their last five games, the Penguins have been leading three times while the Blackhawks have had the lead just once. In a game that means so much more to the Penguins, I think we see a complete effort from them that starts in the first.
- Vancouver Canucks in Regulation (+105) – DraftKings
Despite being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, the Vancouver Canucks haven’t thrown in the towel yet. They’ve gone 5-3-2 in their last ten games, stealing some big points away from other teams that were in contention. Anaheim, on the other hand, has thrown in the towel going 0-8-2 in their last ten. While the Canucks haven’t been great on the road this season, that shouldn’t matter as they’ll be the only team who wants to win this game tonight. Anaheim is currently two points ahead of Columbus and Chicago for last place in the NHL. I can assure you that each one of those teams will do everything they can to put themselves in the best situation possible for the upcoming draft with a generational talent on the line.
