Nebraska at Oklahoma – Saturday, September 18th – 12:05 ET Kickoff
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are on the road as they make the trip to face the #3 Oklahoma Sooners Saturday afternoon. This matchup will feature the renewal of the Big Red Rivalry between Oklahoma and Nebraska. “There’s something a little different about this one,” OU head coach Lincoln Riley said. “It’s so unique. … Anybody that has anything to do with either one, I think you realize that. There’s definitely a little different feel for this one, and I think it’s good for the sport.” Nebraska defeated Buffalo 28-3 at home last Saturday while Oklahoma trounced Western Carolina 76-0 at home last Saturday in their latest action. The Cornhuskers are riding a two-game winning streak after losing their opener; however, they won’t be playing Fordham or Buffalo this week. Oklahoma will look to keep improving this season against Nebraska as they head into conference play next week. The Cornhuskers are going to have to find a way to move the ball on the ground against an Oklahoma defense that has been stout so far this year. The Sooners give up only 77.5 yards per game and 2.6 yards per carry on the ground this season. If Oklahoma has a weakness, it’s their pass defense giving up 5.2 yards per attempt while going against teams only averaging 4.6 yards per attempt. So, if Nebraska is going to make this a game, Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez is going to have to use his arm more than his legs. Heisman hopeful OU QB Spencer Rattler has been excellent thus far hitting on 50 of 65 passes for 547 yards with six touchdown passes against two interceptions while adding 36 yards plus a score on the ground. Speaking of the ground game, Oklahoma should be able to rack up yardage running the football against a Nebraska defense giving up 4 yards per rush and 144 yards per game. In recent trends, the Cornhuskers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games versus a team with a winning record and are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win. Oklahoma will run the ball effectively and their defense will take away the Nebraska running game and turn this into a one-dimensional offense. Meaning Adrian Martinez will throw his first couple interceptions of the season and the Sooners will roll.
