Michael Brennan: The Best in the Bermuda?
Michael Brennan’s rise has been nothing short of impressive. The former Wake Forest standout captured eight individual titles during his collegiate career, including back-to-back ACC Championship wins in 2023 and 2024. Finishing 12th in the PGA TOUR University rankings earned him status on the PGA TOUR Americas, where he quickly proved he belonged.

Port Royal Golf Course plays to a modest 6,828 yards, making it the shortest layout on the PGA TOUR schedule this season. Despite its limited length, the course presents a unique challenge thanks to its design and the ever-present coastal conditions. The greens are among the largest on TOUR, averaging nearly 8,000 square feet, which encourages aggressive approach play but also demands precise distance control.
There are 87 bunkers scattered strategically across the property, the tenth most on TOUR, and water comes into play on seven holes. Still, the true defense of Port Royal isn’t its bunkering or water hazards, but rather the swirling winds off the Atlantic Ocean. Those gusts can vary hole to hole and even minute to minute, forcing players to constantly adjust club selection and shot trajectory.
The four Par 3s at Port Royal Golf Course range from 148 to 235 yards, placing a premium on precision and smart club selection. In last year’s Bank of Utah Championship, every Par 3 had a scoring average over par except No. 3.

This is a demanding par 3 and the large green perched on the ocean will present the golfer with a challenge. Bunkers surround the target and beware – the ocean awaits the long ball. A par here is a hard-earned achievement.

This is truly one of the most spectacular holes in world golf. The tee shot will require a solidly hit shot across the ocean to a green perched high above the ocean on its own peninsular, A well bunkered green offers the player a small target to find and, with the prevailing winds, this hole has the ability to fool the strongest of minds. A shot to the right will be safe from the ocean but missing the traps will be a challenge.
Port Royal Golf Course features eleven par 4s, most of which are listed between 350-400 yards. Strategy plays a major role, particularly on holes that offer tempting risk-reward opportunities. In 2024, the only par 4s that played over par were No. 4, No. 11, No. 15, and No. 18.

A stunning dogleg par 4 which requires a well struck tee shot to the corner – beware of the bunkers guarding the right side! Your second shot is to a raised green, well protected by deep bunkers. An off-line hit can end up in serious trouble here. The three sectioned green will also require plenty of care. It is stroke index 1 and you will understand why.

A dogleg to the right, with the ocean on the left and a steep run off to the right. Two well placed traps on the left of the fairway must be avoided, so play for position from this tee. A risk/reward shot is available with a well struck drive down the right leaving a short iron in to a well-protected, undulating green. Achieving par here is a challenge.
Hole 18 | Par 4 | 410 Yards | 2024 Stroke Average: 4.195 (Difficulty Rank – 4)
A long, straight, uphill par 4 requiring a well struck tee shot to a tiered fairway with bunkers left and right – this is a visually excellent hole. The second shot to a raised green will test your skill set and be sure to take an extra club for this shot to the three-tiered front to back sloping green. You will face a constant challenge to the end on this hole.
There are three Par 5’s on the course: No. 2, No. 7, and No. 17. All of these holes had a scoring average under par in 2024. No. 7 was the easiest Par 5 on the course last year with a scoring average of 0.647 below par.

This is a serious par 5, three-shot hole. Water off the tee gives way to a left to right sweeping dog leg, trees left and right with bunkers to threaten the off-center shot. You will need to play for position on the 2nd

A long, sweeping dogleg where risk and reward will pay off. But watch out from the tee as bunkers are positioned to catch an off-line tee shot. The elevated green is large and undulating creating an exposed position – but don’t let the breathtaking views distract you.

The prevailing wind will punish you here and a well-positioned tee shot is necessary. The water on the left will make the big hitter think and the well trapped right side will certainly favor the conservative player. The second shot is all about position and an accurate layup is required to leave a challenging third shot to a raised green, but beware of the run off. An undulating green caps off this challenging par 5.

Vince Whaley (+3500) – DraftKings
Vince Whaley enters this week coming off a T17 at last week’s World Wide Technology Championship. He has historically performed well on coastal courses, posting top 20 finishes at the Corales Puntacana Championship (T7) and Puerto Rico Open (T16), including last week’s T17. At this event specifically, his past three appearances have produced finishes of T5, T8, and T7. Whaley has come close to winning this season, and with his comfort on coastal layouts, this looks like a strong opportunity for him to capture his first PGA TOUR victory.
Matt Wallace (+3500) – DraftKings
Matt Wallace has shown flashes of strong form this season but has yet to find full consistency. He finished T31 at last week’s World Wide Technology Championship and has proven his ability to win on coastal courses, having captured the 2023 Corales Puntacana Championship. He ranks highly across nearly every category in the model this week, and if he can putt well, he has a legitimate chance to contend.

Patrick Rodgers comes into this week after a T6 at last week’s World Wide Technology Championship. At this event, Rodgers has been particularly consistent, finishing T9, T3, and 4th in his last three appearances.
