In 2013, the tournament secured its title sponsor, Sanderson Farms, a poultry company based in Mississippi, which helped solidify its future on the PGA Tour. The Country Club of Jackson, designed by Dick Wilson, is a par-72 that presents a balanced test with four par 3s, ten par 4s, and four par 5s. The Dogwood-Azalea course at the Country Club of Jackson was designed by John Fought and Mike Gogel. “Dogwood” refers to the front nine and “Azalea” refers to the back nine.
The Country Club of Jackson measures 7,461 yards, making it the 15th longest course on the PGA TOUR this season but doesn’t play it’s true distance as longer hitters can cut corners and take more agressive lines on certain dog-legs. The fairways are narrow, averaging 29 yards wide, ranking among the 7th narrowest on TOUR, but accuracy off the tee is essential as the rough isn’t all that penal. The greens are smaller than the PGA TOUR average at around 6,200 square feet, putting a premium on precise approach shots. With only 56 bunkers—the 9th fewest on TOUR— and water only coming into play on 5 holes – the 7th fewest on TOUR – hazards are less of a factor here.
The four par 3s at The Country Club of Jackson range from 168 to 223 yards, placing a premium on precision and smart club selection. In last year’s Sanderson Farms Championship, only one hole, No. 10, played over par. on average.

The Country Club of Jackson features ten par 4s, most of which fall between 400 and 450 yards. Strategy plays a major role, particularly on holes that offer tempting risk-reward opportunities. In 2024, the two toughest par 4s were No, 16, No. 6, and No. 18, the only Par 4’s to play over par.

Is a dog-leg left where an accurate tee shot is crucial. Since it’s only 400 yards, most players will club down here and try to avoid the creek runs along the hole on the left side. On a player’s approach shot, they’ll have to navigate the two bunkers that protect the green in the front.

This is the signature hole on the course and will require two demanding shots. A swamp runs along the entire left side of the hole and crosses the fairway approximately 80 yards from the hole. If players choose the “bailout” option trees come into play and are forced to hit towards the water on their approach. In addition to the swamp on the left, the green is protected by a large bunker on the right.
There are four Par 5’s on the course: No. 3, No. 5, No. 11, and No. 14. All of these holes had a scoring average under par in 2024. No. 3 was the easiest Par 5 on the course last year with a scoring average of 0.453 below par.

This is the longest hole on the course and the toughest of the Par 5’s. Off the tee, players will try to navigate their ball between two fairway bunkers, putting them in position to try and go for it in two. If they do try and reach the green in two, they cannot miss short-left as a pond comes into play. The green itself is surrounded by multiple bunkers as well.

Players will need an accurate tee shot off the tee. The left side is woodlands, while on the right side, trees can come into play. Even if they do find the fairway, they can end up in one of the fairway bunkers. On their approach shot, they’ll have to avoid the two front bunkers.

Outright Picks:
Michael Thorbjornsen (+2200) – DraftKings
Thorbjornsen opened the season with some struggles but has found consistency since late April. Over his last six starts, he has recorded four finishes of T21 or better, including a T4 at the Rocket Classic, a strong comp course for this week, and a T13 at the Procore Championship to start the FedExCup Fall.
He teed it up at this event last season and placed T8 despite ranking 59th in SG: Approach. Since then, his iron play has made clear progress, gaining strokes in seven of his last ten starts and in each of his last two. His distance off the tee continues to give him an edge, and the putter has come around after early-season struggles. He has gained strokes on the greens in five of his last seven starts, and at this event a year ago he ranked 7th in SG: Putting.
Min Woo Lee (+2200) – DraftKings
Min Woo Lee earned his first PGA TOUR victory earlier this season at Memorial Park, a course that sets up similarly to this week’s test. After that breakthrough, his form cooled, with just one top-20 finish in his next ten starts. Recently, though, he has shown signs of regaining momentum. Competing on the DP World Tour after the TOUR Championship, Lee finished T11 at the BMW PGA Championship and followed it up with a T5 at the Open de France.
Those performances were fueled by sharper approach play and improved putting, two key areas for success at the Sanderson Farms. Lee’s length off the tee remains a major weapon, and with confidence building again, he looks poised for a strong debut at this event. The fact that he won the Texas Children’s Houston Open in his first appearance there also adds another layer of optimism.
Max Homa (+4000) – DraftKings
Max Homa will want to put the 2025 season behind him after managing only two top 20 finishes. Still, there are signs his game is starting to turn. At the first event of the FedExCup Fall, he finished T19 while gaining strokes in nearly every category.
Iron play has been the biggest concern for Homa this year, but he has gained on approach in each of his last six starts. Off the tee, he has also shown progress, gaining in four straight events thanks to improved accuracy. The putter has been steady overall, and when it spikes he tends to post strong results, as seen at both the Masters and the Procore Championship.
With his ball striking trending in the right direction and facing a weaker field this week, Homa has the potential to contend.
Patrick Fishburn (+6000) – FanDuel
Patrick Fishburn missed out on the FedExCup Playoffs, largely because of a slow start to the year, but he closed the season with encouraging form. He posted three top-20 finishes in his final six starts and added a T38 at the Procore Championship to open the FedExCup Fall.
His irons have been inconsistent overall but have shown improvement in recent weeks, and his putting has followed the same trend in a positive direction. While his accuracy off the tee has dipped, the raw distance he possesses is a key asset on this course.
If Fishburn can keep the putter rolling and continue the recent progress with his approach play, he has the upside to contend at a number like this.
Matti Schmid (+8000) – BetMGM
Matti Schmid has missed the cut in each of his last two DP World Tour starts, but he still rates well in the key areas of my model this week. His overall form is not as poor as those results suggest, though his iron play has lacked consistency and will be the main factor in determining his ceiling.
On the positive side, Schmid’s putting has been steady, and his distance off the tee gives him the ability to keep up on this course. He has also shown he can find success here before, finishing T16 at the Country Club of Jackson last year.
If he can dial in the irons, Schmid has the tools to outperform his odds.
