I am gonna go back to the well here on my most common play from last year in backing this pitcher. Zach Gallen is a man amongst boys at the helm. Over the past three seasons, this man hasn’t been below a 3.5 ERA. So far this year, Zach is at a 1.93 FIP over 22 innings. Today he matches up with Giants pitcher Kyle Harrison who is young yet venerable. Kyle has a 4.7 ERA and a 5.03 FIP this year over 23 innings pitched. The Giants rank 16th in wRC+ while the Diamondbacks rank 10th. I know that the Giants are coming off of a devastating loss to the snakes 17-1, but this isn’t exactly the great matchup that will help them get into this game. I am gonna forget the bullpen today and go with the 1st 5.
Today marks the commencement of four thrilling NHL playoff series. The Battle of Florida ignites as the Tampa Bay Lightning clash with the Florida Panthers, while the New York Rangers, holders of the President’s Trophy, face off against the Washington Capitals. Additionally, the Colorado Avalanche go head-to-head with the Winnipeg Jets, and the Nashville Predators take on the Vancouver Canucks. Let’s delve into each series, dissecting the dynamics, and I’ll unveil my predictions for Game 1.
Florida Panthers vs Tampa Bay Lightning
Series Price
Florida Panthers (-180)
Tampa Bay Lightning (+150)
The Panthers clinched the top spot in the Atlantic Division with an impressive total of 110 points. Ending the regular season with a flourish, they secured victories in each of their last four games, solidifying their status as contenders for the Stanley Cup.
Sam Reinhart, the former 2nd overall draft pick, emerged as the linchpin of the Panthers’ offense this season, amassing an impressive 94 points (57 goals, 37 assists). This marked a career-best performance for Reinhart, surpassing his previous record of 82 points set in the 2021-22 season. Notably, Matthew Tkachuk (88 points) and Aleksander Barkov (80 points) also made significant offensive contributions, boasting averages of over a point per game.
On the other hand, the Tampa Bay Lightning concluded the season with 98 points, mirroring their total from the previous year. However, while they secured the third spot in the Atlantic Division last season, this year they settled for fourth, earning the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Notably, the Lightning faced challenges on the road, posting a 20-18-3 record compared to their strong 25-11-5 performance at home.
Nikita Kucherov maintained his dominance for the Lightning, leading the team in points for the second consecutive season with an impressive total of 144 (44 goals, 100 assists). Brayden Point (90 points) and Steven Stamkos (81 points) were the only other players on Tampa Bay to boast averages of over a point per game.

Preview/Pick(s):
The Battle of Florida unfolded thrice this season, with the Panthers seizing the upper hand by clinching victory in two of those matchups. Both teams grappled with injury woes throughout the regular season, leaving some players questionable for Game 1. In the Panthers’ camp, Aaron Ekblad is slated to make his return to the lineup for the series opener, while Ekman-Larsson’s availability remains uncertain. Conversely, Tampa Bay’s Mikhail Sergachev has been sidelined for the past two months with a leg injury, and his status for this series hangs in the balance.
With Florida enjoying the home-ice advantage in this showdown, it could serve as a decisive factor. While Tampa Bay boasts a seasoned core of veterans with Stanley Cup-winning experience, the Panthers field an impressive contingent of 14 players from last year’s finals.
The goaltending narrative adds another layer of intrigue to this matchup. Sergei Bobrovsky, who shone brightly during last season’s playoffs, has faced occasional struggles this year. Alongside Bobrovsky, Anthony Stolarz has made a mark, ranking 3rd in Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx) with a notable +20.1. Meanwhile, Andrei Vasilevskiy faced an injury setback early in the season and hasn’t quite replicated his past stellar form. However, his ability to elevate his performance during the postseason is a well-documented phenomenon.
In summary, the advantage tilts in favor of Florida for this series. Their offensive depth coupled with strong defensive play positions them as formidable contenders. While anticipation mounts for a fiercely competitive series, the Panthers appear poised to fulfill their mission this season and emerge triumphant.
Pick: Florida Panthers -1.5 Games (+115) – DraftKings
Game 1 Picks:
Sam Reinhart over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-140) – DraftKings
Sam Reinhart is currently stationed on Florida’s top line alongside Vladimir Tarasenko and Aleksander Barkov. Additionally, he holds a position on Florida’s first Powerplay unit, which is poised for several opportunities tonight, considering Tampa Bay ranks 28th in Penalty Minutes.
Reinhart has hit his shots on goal mark in each of his last five games. During that span, he’s averaging 4.0 shots on goal and 7.2 shot attempts per game.
He’s also been better at home recording over 2.5 shots on goal in 7 of his last 10 games compared to just 6 of his last 10 on the road.
Reinhart has a great history against Tampa Bay recording over 2.5 shots on goal in 7 of his last 10 games against them.
Tampa Bay currently ranks 12th in the NHL for shots on goal allowed per game, averaging 29.63 shots. On the road, this number slightly increases to 29.93. Their recent performance has been even less stellar, with an average of 31.20 shots faced per game in their last ten outings. Breaking down the distribution by position, the Lightning have conceded the second-highest number of shots on goal to right-wingers in their past ten games.
New York Rangers vs Washington Capitals
Series Price
New York Rangers (-450)
Washington Capitals (+340)
The New York Rangers capped off the NHL regular season with an impressive 110 points, securing the coveted President’s Trophy. Their last triumph in this regard dates back to the 2014-15 season, coinciding with their journey to the Eastern Conference Final. Eager to bounce back from last season’s disappointment, where they were eliminated in the first round by the New Jersey Devils, the Rangers are poised for redemption.
Artemi Panarin showcased the pinnacle of his eight-year NHL career during the regular season, setting personal records with 49 goals and 120 points. His remarkable form culminated in a scorching 13-game point streak, tallying 26 points (15 goals, 11 assists). Additionally, the Rangers boasted four other players with over 70 points each, including Vincent Trocheck (77 points), Chris Kreider (75 points), Adam Fox (73 points), and Mike Zibanejad (72 points).
While Igor Shesterkin, a consistent presence in the top 5 of Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAX) in the past two regular seasons, faced some challenges this year, he regained his form in the latter half of the season. Posting a stellar record of 17-5-1 with a 2.20 goals-against average, a .930 save percentage, and four shutouts in 23 games from Feb. 9 onwards, Shesterkin showcased his resilience. Meanwhile, backup goaltender Jonathan Quick, boasting three Stanley Cup rings, enjoyed a marked improvement compared to last season, concluding with a 2.62 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 27 games.
On the other side, the Washington Capitals secured a playoff berth with 91 points, despite a concerning minus-36 goal differential. Their late surge, winning four of their last five games, allowed them to clinch the spot, narrowly edging out the Detroit Red Wings on a tiebreaker. While the Capitals have reached the playoffs four times in the last five seasons, they’ve faced first-round exits on each occasion.
Dylan Strome led the Capitals in points this season with 67 (27 goals, 40 assists), with only two additional players surpassing the 50-point mark: Alex Ovechkin (65 points) and John Carlson (52 points).
In the goaltending department, Darcy Kuemper began the season as the Capitals’ No. 1 goaltender, but Charlie Lindgren has emerged as the primary option in recent outings. Lindgren’s impressive performance in the final stretch, going 4-1-1 with a 1.68 goals-against average, a .937 save percentage, and one shutout in his last six starts, underscores his impact. Finishing the season with a commendable 25-16-7 record, a 2.67 goals-against average, and a .911 save percentage, Lindgren solidified his position. Conversely, Kuemper’s season saw him post a 13-14-3 record with a 3.31 goals-against average, a .890 save percentage, and one shutout in 33 games.

Preview/Pick(s):
These divisional rivals have clashed four times this season, with the series evenly split at 2-2.
On paper, the Rangers appear to have a significant advantage, but as we’ve seen time and again, hockey can be unpredictable. The key for the Rangers in this series will be to generate more 5-on-5 production, as they have heavily relied on their special teams to score goals. Washington, known for their disciplined play, doesn’t take many penalties, so the Rangers must capitalize on their limited power play opportunities.
Despite the Rangers’ struggles at even strength, the Capitals are dealing with several defensive injuries and have struggled to limit scoring chances throughout the season. Lindgren, riding high into this series, will need to maintain his exceptional level of play to give Washington a chance. If the Capitals can keep the games low-scoring and capitalize on their chances, they could make things interesting. However, if the Rangers’ forwards can generate opportunities and receive solid goaltending from Shesterkin, they should be well-positioned to secure victory in this series.
Pick: Series Correct Score NY Rangers 4-2 (+350) – DraftKings

Washington currently ranks 21st in the NHL for shots on goal allowed per game, averaging 30.52 shots. On the road, this number slightly increases to 31.51.
Mika Zibanejad over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-140) – DraftKings

Winnipeg Jets vs Colorado Avalanche
Series Price
Winnipeg Jets (+115)
Colorado Avalanche (-135)
The Winnipeg Jets concluded the regular season with an impressive total of 110 points, trailing the Dallas Stars by a mere three points for the top spot in the Central Division. They capped off the season on a high note, securing victory in eight of their last ten games. However, their postseason aspirations took a hit last year when they were eliminated in the first round by the Vegas Golden Knights.
Mark Scheifele led the Jets in scoring with 72 points (25 goals, 47 assists). Alongside Scheifele, the Jets boasted a formidable offensive lineup, with five other players tallying over 50 points each: Josh Morrissey (69 points), Kyle Conner (61 points), Nikolaj Ehlers (61 points), Sean Monahan* (59 points), and Tyler Toffoli (55 points).
The Jets also boasted one of the League’s top goaltending tandems this season in Connor Hellebuyck and Laurent Brossoit. Hellebuyck, considered a frontrunner for the Vezina Trophy, posted a league-leading +33.1 Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx), while Brossoit ranked 10th with a commendable +13.1 GSAx.
Meanwhile, the Colorado Avalanche secured third place in the Central Division with 107 points. Despite their Stanley Cup win in 2021-22, they suffered a disappointing postseason exit last year, falling in the first round to the Seattle Kraken.
Once again, Nathan MacKinnon led the Avalanche in scoring for the second consecutive season, amassing an impressive 140 points (51 goals, 89 assists). Additionally, Mikko Rantanen eclipsed the 100-point mark, registering 104 points (42 goals, 62 assists) in 80 games played.

These divisional adversaries have squared off three times this season, with the Jets emerging victorious in each encounter. Notably, Winnipeg asserted dominance on the scoreboard, outscoring Colorado by a commanding margin of 17-4 across those matchups.
For Winnipeg to advance to the second round of the playoffs, they must lean heavily on their defensive prowess. While their offensive output has surged heading into the postseason, their success hinges on their ability to thwart Colorado’s formidable offense. Fortunately for the Jets, recent performances have showcased their capability to stifle their opponent’s scoring opportunities.
Although Colorado boasts one of the NHL’s most potent offenses, Winnipeg has demonstrated the capacity to contain them. This defensive resilience could prove pivotal in tipping the scales in favor of the Jets as they aim for postseason success.
Pick: Winnipeg Jets (+115)

Vancouver Canucks vs Nashville Predators
Series Price
Vancouver Canucks (-150)
Nashville Predators (+130)
The Vancouver Canucks clinched the top spot in the Pacific Division with an impressive tally of 109 points, marking their maiden victory in the division’s history.
J.T. Miller led the charge for the Canucks, amassing an impressive 103 points (37 goals, 66 assists). Additionally, the Canucks boasted a formidable offensive lineup, with three other players tallying over 50 points each: Quinn Hughes (92 points), Elias Pettersson (89 points), and Brock Boeser (73 points).
Thatcher Demko, returning from a late-season knee injury, previously showcased Vezina-worthy form. However, should he encounter challenges, the Canucks may turn to Casey DeSmith, although his recent performances haven’t been stellar.
Meanwhile, the Nashville Predators concluded the season with 99 points, securing the top spot in the Western Conference. Despite missing the playoffs last season, they’ve faced first-round exits in each of the previous four seasons.
Filip Forsberg spearheaded Nashville’s offensive charge this season, notching a career-best 94 points (48 goals, 46 assists). Complementing Forsberg were key contributors such as Roman Josi (85 points), Gustav Nyquist (75 points), and Ryan O’Reilly (69 points).
In the goaltending department, Juuse Saros endured a slightly underwhelming season by his standards. However, he has a history of elevating his performance in the playoffs, boasting a career save percentage of .914 in postseason play.

While this series may lack the flashy appeal of matchups like Dallas versus Vegas or Boston against Toronto, it promises to deliver captivating hockey. The true X-Factor in this contest lies in the goaltending department. Can Demko maintain his composure and stand tall during the playoffs? Will Saros rediscover his form and offer consistent goaltending for the Predators? These uncertainties add an intriguing dimension to the series.
Given the matchup between these teams, I anticipate this series stretching to at least six games.

Saturday marks the commencement of the NHL Playoffs with two electrifying matchups: New York facing off against Carolina, and Toronto taking on Boston. Let’s delve into each series, dissecting the dynamics, and I’ll unveil my predictions for Game 1.
Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Islanders
Series Price
Carolina Hurricanes (-340)
New York Islanders (+280)
The Carolina Hurricanes clinched the 2nd spot in the Metropolitan Division with an impressive tally of 111 points this season. Unlike their struggles in the previous season’s playoffs, the Hurricanes enter this postseason on a high note, securing victory in seven of their last ten matchups.
Leading the charge for the Hurricanes in points this season is Sebastian Aho, boasting an impressive 89 points, comprised of 36 goals and 53 assists. The addition of Jake Guentzel to their top line alongside Aho and Jarvis has seamlessly integrated into the lineup, with the trio combining for an impressive 31 goals and 51 points in just 15 games since March. However, the adjustment hasn’t been as smooth for Evgeny Kuznetsov, formerly of the Washington Capitals, who has found himself shuffled around as coach Rod Brind’Amour seeks to solidify his lines for the playoffs.
Despite missing 23 games due to various injuries, Andrei Svechnikov enters the postseason riding a four-game point streak, showcasing his impact with 52 points over 59 games this season.
Meanwhile, the New York Islanders secured the 3rd spot in the Metropolitan Division with 94 points. They closed out the season on a strong note, winning eight of their last nine games. Notably, despite boasting the NHL’s weakest penalty kill, they managed to limit opponents to an average of just 2.00 goals against during their nine-game surge.
Matthew Barzal stood out as the sole Islanders player to maintain a point-per-game average this season, amassing 80 points across 80 games played, with 23 goals and 57 assists. On the blue line, Noah Dobson’s stellar performance has been a beacon of success, ranking 7th among defensemen in scoring with 70 points. However, Dobson’s availability for Game 1 hangs in the balance as he nurses an upper-body injury sustained against Montreal. His potential absence could pose a significant setback for the Islanders, having missed the past four games.

Preview/Pick(s):
These divisional rivals have clashed four times this season, with the series deadlocked at 2-2. Notably, two of those encounters extended into overtime, underscoring the tight competition between them.
Despite New York’s recent resurgence, they’re set to face a formidable opponent in Carolina, a team renowned for its minimal weaknesses. The Hurricanes wrapped up the season ranking 8th in goals scored per game and 4th in goals against per game, showcasing their balanced attack and defensive solidity. Moreover, their special teams units stand among the league’s best. Adding to their strength is the stellar performance of Frederik Andersen in goal since his return from injury.
For New York to stand a chance in this series, they’ll need to adopt a defensive stance, aiming to keep the scores low and capitalize on their defensive prowess. Semyon Varlamov’s impressive form, boasting a record of 8-1-1 with a 2.09 goals-against average since March 1st, could prove crucial in this regard.
While there’s potential for New York to snatch a game or two, particularly if Varlamov or Sorokin catch fire, the overall depth and strength of the Carolina team position them as the favorites to prevail in this series.
Pick: CAR Hurricanes to Win Game 1/CAR Hurricanes to Win Series (-135) – DraftKings
Game 1 Picks:
Carolina Hurricanes in Regulation (-125) – DraftKings
I’ll include this pick alongside my previous projection, but my assessment remains unchanged—I foresee Carolina dominating this series. Their well-rounded lineup and formidable performance throughout the season make them a formidable force. Despite the Islanders’ late surge to secure a playoff spot, I find it challenging to envision them surpassing the Hurricanes.
Examining the Islanders’ recent 8-2 streak, it’s worth noting that many of their victories came against lower-ranked teams, with their only losses incurred against playoff contenders. Additionally, the Islanders have encountered difficulties on the road, boasting an 18-17-6 record, whereas the Hurricanes have demonstrated exceptional prowess at home with an impressive 27-10-4 record.
Boston Bruins vs Toronto Maple Leafs
Series Price
Boston Bruins (-125)
Toronto Maple Leafs (+105)
The Boston Bruins concluded the regular season with an impressive total of 109 points, falling just one point short of the Florida Panthers for the top seed in the Atlantic Division. Following their President’s Trophy win last season, where they set NHL records for most wins (65) and points (135), the Bruins suffered a disappointing early exit in the playoffs, ousted in the first round by the Florida Panthers.
Leading the charge in offensive prowess for the Bruins is David Pastrnak, amassing an impressive 110 points (47 goals, 63 assists), securing the team’s top points spot for the second consecutive season. Notably, Brad Marchand (67 points) and Charlie Coyle (60 points) also contributed significantly, although concerns lingered throughout the season regarding the team’s offensive depth.
Nevertheless, the Bruins leaned heavily on their defensive prowess, anchored by the goaltending tandem of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. Ullmark, ranking 7th in Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx), has notably elevated his performance heading into the postseason, fueled by the desire to redeem last season’s disappointing .896 save percentage in the first-round series against Florida.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Maple Leafs secured third place in the Atlantic Division with 102 points. Last season, they broke a 19-year drought by advancing past the first round before succumbing to the Panthers.
Auston Matthews emerged as a standout performer, leading the NHL in goals with an impressive tally of 69, the most since Mario Lemieux’s 69 in 1995-96. He amassed 107 points in 81 games, marking a new career high. Additionally, William Nylander and Mitch Marner enjoyed stellar seasons, finishing with 98 and 85 points, respectively. Despite the trio’s contributions, the Leafs also boast four other players with 14 or more goals.
However, defensively, the Leafs experienced regression from the previous season, ranking 21st in goals against per game (GA/GP) and possessing the 22nd-worst penalty kill. In the goaltending department, Ilya Samsonov is slated to start Game 1, despite an inconsistent season marked by a 3.13 goals-against average and a .890 save percentage. Although facing struggles earlier in the season, he reclaimed the number-one goaltender position after being placed on waivers. Behind him, Joseph Woll has encountered difficulties since returning from injury, further highlighting the Leafs’ goaltending concerns.

These divisional adversaries have crossed paths four times this season, with the Bruins asserting dominance in each encounter. While two of those matchups stretched into overtime, the Bruins commanded the scoreboard, outscoring the Leafs 15-7 across all four games. Their postseason history adds another layer of intensity, having clashed 16 times in Stanley Cup Playoff history, most recently in 2019, and meeting four times in the past 11 years.
For the Bruins to clinch victory in this series, they must focus on stifling Toronto’s offensive prowess, maintaining a tight defensive structure, and keeping the scoring low, all while relying on their formidable goaltending. Conversely, Toronto lacks the goaltending depth of Boston and will heavily lean on their offensive firepower to tilt the scales in their favor.
Anticipating a clash of contrasting play styles and the intricacies of team matchups, I foresee this series extending to seven games.
Pick: Series Total Games – 7 (+200)
Game 1 Picks:
Boston Bruins ml (-125) – BetMGM
I anticipate a formidable performance from the Bruins in Game 1, particularly on home ice, where they’ve excelled this season with an impressive 24-11-6 record. Their perfect record against the Leafs this season further bolsters their confidence, showcasing their ability to neutralize Toronto’s potent offense.
The key factor tipping the scales in favor of the Bruins for Game 1 is the goaltending matchup. With Ilya Samsonov expected in net for the Leafs, recent struggles cast doubt on his ability to deliver a strong performance. Conversely, the Bruins are likely to rely on the in-form Linus Ullmark.
Brad Marchand over 0.5 PTS (-135) – DraftKings
Marchand boasts an impressive track record against the Leafs, having tallied points in eight of his last ten matchups against them. Toronto’s defensive struggles have persisted throughout the season, a concern exacerbated as they head into the playoffs.

We are almost finally here for the 2024 draft class in which we have a fully loaded bag of quarterbacks that have some potential to become franchise players in the very near future. Once again, I do a deep dive into what quarterbacks I think are worthy of being drafted as well as my complete ranking of the top 15. I will say that there is a large line between my tier one guys over my tier two guys. Last year, I had disagreed with much of the consensus by having CJ Stroud number one over Bryce Young whom I had at number three. Hendon Hooker still has time to prove himself, while Anthony Richardson at number seven still hasn’t shown me that I was wrong. This year, I agree more with the consensus up top with the two Heisman trophy winners, but certainly not towards the middle. Here is a best bet and how it all shapes out.
Best Bet: JJ McCarthy draft position over 5.5 +120 – Draftkings. I don’t buy the smoke screen that teams are putting out on this kid.
Caleb Williams, USC HT: 6-foot-1 | WT: 214 pounds
Caleb didn’t do a heck of a lot in the combine, and why should he? When you are the number one pick in the draft, competing in a combine would only hurt you. Still I have to say that Caleb isn’t quite as sure fire as I thought he might be last year coming into the 2023 Pac 12 football season, but all in all, he’s still number one in my book. Looking at his USC career, Caleb hasn’t had any help on defense. He was hindered from having a poor offensive line. Even without combine numbers, we have to assume that Caleb is fast like he has shown in college, and he can make the big throws in the seam routs. Caleb also has shown some Mahomes like instincts as he knows when to escape the pocket, get the ball out with a side-arm, and how to throw his pass catchers open. Some say that Caleb’s hand size is a little small, and his height is a little short, but I don’t think that will be much of an issue as he seems to play taller than many of the guys his size. My only issue with Caleb is that he has shown some potential mental issues after how he had publicly addressed some of his losses, as well as some strange off the field behavior that I could call a cry for attention. Due to these issues, I have a pretty thin margin with Caleb over my number two guy listed right below.
We have the Heisman trophy winner bringing in the second spot over many analysts who like Drake Maye from North Carolina. Last year, Jayden was number one in total QBR while blowing away the competition in EPA at an amazing 132.3 rating. Jayden only played twelve games while he passed for forty touchdowns and four interceptions. He has the scrambling ability that NFL teams love and the passing numbers to back it up. Jayden has NFL height at 6’4, but his frame is a bit small at only 210 lbs. soak and wet. He needs to beef up some in order to sustain those NFL sized hits. The only real knock that I have against Jayden is that he only won one out of his four chances to beat top 10 teams. Being a clutch player is massively important in the NFL, and let’s hope that he develops that kind of confidence. I also have to wonder if Jayden is just a system type quarterback as he was questionable during his ASU days while he thrived quite well under Mike Denbrock’s offense. None the less, the numbers don’t lie and I have Daniels just a smidge under Caleb Williams for 2024.
3. Michael Penix Jr, Washington HT: 6-foot-2 | WT: 216 pounds
I find it very weird having Michael Penix as my third best prospect in this draft when this man would be the top prospect in many other draft classes. Michael put the team on his shoulders, and brought them to a national championship game. Michael had mad passing numbers at number one in total yards at 4903 with 36 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. These numbers would have been better had he had to finish out games without the huge lead running clock. Michael has the size and strength to be a top NFL prospect with enormous 10.5 inch hands. Penix was very accurate in his deep balls in which he personally made his wide receivers top prospects. The only two knocks against Michael Penix is that he his a lefty and some say that his success is due to Kalen Deboer’s amazing offense. Well, can’t you say the same for all of these quarterbacks? What is Caleb Williams without Riley and Jayden Daniels without Denbrock? What is JJ McCarthy without Harbaugh, and Bo Nix without Dillingham or Will Stein? Michael Penix could turn out to be the best in this class.
Speaking of system quarterbacks, Bo Nix pretty much made millions of dollars from leaving Auburn to land in Oregon. Bo threw for an amazing 4,508 yards over 14 games with 45 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Did I mention that he also ran for six TDs and 234 yards? Now even though much of Nix’s success was due to being in a great system under Kenny Dillingham, and Will Stein, you can’t ignore the clutch production that Bo has showed in important games as well as his accuracy. The big knock on Bo is that he is older at 24 years old, and he recently hasn’t played against great defenses. I would tend to disagree on that being he showed what he had to offer away from home at Utah. I also think that Bo could be more of a sleeper in this draft than folks seem to think. I watched enough Oregon games to see the talent that Bo Nix has, and I believe that he could be a franchise quarterback in the next level. This is the last quarterback that I have with a 1st round grade.
Tier two starts here and it also means that I do not have anyone here and below worthy of first or second round consideration. Ok, I am gonna go out on a limb here. What did Sam Hartman actually do wrong last year in his 10 wins at Notre Dame? Sam’s last two years of football were quite remarkable throwing about a 63% completion percentage with 62 touchdowns. A big knock on this guy, besides his size and athletic ability is that he didn’t play in a pro-style offense at Wake Forest under Dave Clawson, but Sam’s transfer season at Notre Dame where more of a pro-style offense is played, proved otherwise. Hartman is a little small and a little slow for the modern day quarterback position, but he does have a cannon for an arm. He also has good sized quarterback hands at 9 & 3/4 inches to grip the ball. Sam Hartman wins big games. His teams’ rarely lose because of him. Wake Forest has taken a HUGE step back after Hartman left in 2023 winning only four games. I think that Sam Hartman is your fifth best quarterback in this draft.
Many say that the Washington commanders are looking at this guy for the number two overall pick in the draft. Being that they just tried the previous North Carolina quarterback in Sam Howell, do you really think that this would be a smart idea? Do I even need to mention Mitch Trubisky? I honestly think that the ACC wasn’t a good football conference over the past few years, and I am not sure that we can trust some of Maye’s numbers. Now is he a bust? I do not really know, but I believe his expectations to results ratio is quite high if he is the number two or three quarterback picked in the NFL draft. Drake Maye may look the part with his size, speed and strength, but he seemed to always lose the big games and his record only boasts one win over ranked teams over the past two years. Drake’s hand size is also a bit small for his size at 9 & 1/8th inches long. Maye’s numbers took a hit last year going from 66% completions, 38 Td. and 7 Int. to 63%, 24 Td. and 9 Int. Drake Maye reminds me more of a Jake Locker, or a Jacob Eason. Avoid him in the first round.
I honestly do not understand the hype for JJ McCarthy and it just feels many fans, and even GMs, haven’t learned anything from what they have seen in the past. Sure, JJ is a national champion, but have you seen his coach? I mean, if JJ should be a top five pick for being the quarterback of this year’s national champion, then why wasn’t AJ McCarron, Cardale Jones, or Tim Tebow top five picks? I watched both the playoff games this past year against Alabama and Washington. I can assure you that the Michigan Wolverines did not win the national championship because of their quarterback. I might even argue that he almost lost the game going 10-18 and only 140 yards vs a rough Pac 12 defense. One of his big playmakers bailed him out on a poorly thrown key 3rd down pass that proved to be huge in that game. Maybe JJ is a winner at heart, and will do well in the NFL, but he has some small hands at nine inches long, and he conveniently turned down running the 40 yard dash at the combine due to an injury. Have we learned nothing about Jim Harbaugh with Colin Kaepernick? Kaep with Harbaugh was an all-star while Kaep without Harbaugh wasn’t even good enough to be in the league. I give a 4th round grade to JJ McCarthy at best, and I see a potential bust, or at least a large work in progress for the time being. Fade any team that drafts him for 2024.
8. Jordan Travis, Florida State HT: 6-foot-1 | WT: 200 pounds
I think we are finally back on to a guy that is properly ranked in Jordan Travis. This Seminal is a bit undersized, yet many starting quarterbacks in the NFL have the same characteristics. Jordan Travis did a great job in not losing games, which is all you can ask for in a team that got screwed out of their playoff chances from a biased committee. Jordan possesses great scrambling and speed abilities along with some great accuracy as a quarterback. Travis threw for 45 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions over the last two years at about 64% completion percentage. This kid is fast and slippery. He should be able to get yards rushing the football. The biggest knock on him is that he didn’t play in a pro-style offense, so there will be a learning curve for this kid.
This might be one of the diamonds in the rough in this draft. Tanner has had an amazing career at SMU where in his final year he threw for 3,524 yards, at 65% completion percentage. I also like the 33/10 touchdown to interception ratio. Tanner’s numbers took a slight dip when he went to Wisconsin, but if you watched that team, there were literally no good pass catchers while the Badgers were trying to figure out a brand new Phil Longo offense that didn’t seem to gel the whole 2023 season. I must say that I am very impressed with Tanner’s pro day running a 4.46 forty. He did scramble for 300 yards last season, and this could be a secret weapon if used property in the next level. I would not pick Tanner until the seventh round or so, but this kid might turn out to be a diamond in the rough.
Didn’t make the cut:
10. Michael Pratt, Tulane HT: 6-foot-2 | WT: 217 pounds
This kid was a stud at Tulane, but there is nothing there that shows that he can be better than a backup in the next level.
Zach wasn’t good on the Aggies, but who the hell was under Jimbo Fisher? He is big and he looked great in the FCS at Incarnate Ward. Could be a sneaky 7th rounder or walk on success.
12. Joe Milton, Tennessee HT: 6-foot-5 | WT: 235 pounds
If Anthony Richardson was a poor man’s Cam Newton, then Joe Milton is a poor man’s Anthony Richardson. The Josh Hueple offense doesn’t really translate to the pros. Joe Milton does not run that fast either.
I wish I was a little bit taller, I wish I was a baller. Taulia actually was a baller in college, but he isn’t fast enough to be a 5’10 quarterback in the NFL running a 4.8 forty.
Two years ago at NC State, I was thinking that Devon could be a potential NFL prospect, but after his performance at Kentucky, I remain quite leery on his chances.

Marlins vs Cubs -153 O/U 8
This should be an interesting game today in the friendly confines were both teams were robbed from their Thursday rest and thrown right back into the competitive fire. The wind is blowing in today at speeds up to 15MPH at Wrigley which could make for a pitchers sort of duel. AJ Puk takes the helm for the struggling 4-15 Marlins. AJ is having a rough start with a 5.91 ERA after having a decent year last year at 3.97 over 56 innings. Jameson Taillon is taking the helm for the first time this year for the Cubs. He had a rough start last year and ended up with a 4.84 ERA. He is one of the weaker links on the Cubs rotation. What I like here in this game is the situation and the price. The Cubs are coming home after being out West. They are tired and most likely in let down mode after beating the Diamondbacks two out of their three game series. The Marlins are dying for a win themselves, and I think that this could be a spot where the team rallies in order to try and get back to respectable. With the wind blowing in and the pitchers having so many questions, I like the first five innings of this game at the price of +130 to go in favor with the Marlins.

Scottie Scheffler clinched his second green jacket last week, at 4-1 odds on most books. Remarkably, he has won in three out of his last four Tour starts. Despite expressing his intention to return home to his wife following his victory, Scheffler remains slated to compete this week. While there is speculation surrounding a potential withdrawal from the event, he is presently listed among the participants.
Let’s get into this week’s storylines…
The fifth Signature Event of the season takes place this week at Harbour Town.
Matthew Fitzpatrick will look to defend his title after defeating Jordan Spieth in a playoff last year. Should he succeed, he would secure a notable feat as the first golfer since Boo Weekley in 2007-08 to achieve back-to-back victories at the RBC Heritage.

Originally crafted by Pete Dye in 1969, Harbour Town features a Par 71 layout, comprising four Par 3s, eleven Par 4s, and three Par 5s.
In terms of length, Harbour Town is one of the shortest courses on Tour measuring 7,213 yards. It ranks 17th out of 44 courses in length. The fairways are on the narrower side, ranking 15 of 44, with the average fairway width being 33.5 yards. The average green size is roughly 3,700 square feet which is on the smaller side when compared to the other courses on the PGA Tour. Bunkers really aren’t a factor here as there are only 54 which ranks as the 8th fewest of 44 courses.
The four Par 3’s range between 192 yards and 217 yards. In the last edition of this event, all of the Par 3’s had a scoring average over par.
No. 4, 200 Yards, Par 3: “A classic Pete Dye risk/reward design. There is ample room on the right to bail out, and a hidden bunker behind the green can save your ball from a lagoon.”
No. 14, 192 Yards, Par 3: “This is a beautiful aquatic layout with water from tee to green on the right. Thanks to overhanging trees, the green is a small, isolated target with an adjacent small pot bunker bound to act as a magnet for the unsuspecting.”
There are eleven Par 4’s at Harbour Town Golf Links with the majority of those holes ranging between 400 and 450 yards. No. 9 is the shortest listed at 332 yards with the longest being No. 8, playing 473 yards. In terms of scoring average, the toughest Par 4 on the course last year was No. 3 (+0.178).
No. 3, 469 Yards, Par 4: “Trees line both sides of the fairway, making a straight shot from the tee important. A large bunker guards the front of the green, with three more positioned to the right. A medium to short iron can get the job done, but the small green can be hard to hold onto.”
No. 13, 373 Yards, Par 4: “The tee shot must be positioned to the right side of the fairway to set up the approach to the green. The second shot will be an itron shot between two large oaks, but don’t score your par until you’ve surmounted the final; two obstacles: a large cypress and the banked bunker that guards the front of the green.”
No. 18, 472 Yards, Par 4: “The 18th hole is one of golf’s most recognizable finishes with the Harbour Town Lighthouse standing sentinel behind the green. The goal is the wide landing area jutting into Calibogue Sound. The long approach to the flag offers ample bailout to the right where the innocent-looking but insidious mounding has caused many to lose a sought-after par.”
There are three Par 5s on the course, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 15. All of these holes had a scoring average under par in 2023. The easiest hole on the course last year was No. 2 with a scoring average of 4.633.
No. 2, 502 Yards, Par 5: “Long hitters can reach the green in two if they keep the drive on the left side of the fairway. Otherwise, the second shot should be positioned down the left side to open up the green, which lies on a diagonal, for a third shot.”
No. 15, 588 Yards, Par 5: “You could call No. 15 a thinking challenge since this great par five demands careful deliberation and shot execution all the way from the tee to the flag. This will save you from the fate of the water on the left and zealous bunker guardians on both sides.”

Here are the current favorites in this week’s event and a summary of their recent form and course history.
Scottie Scheffler (+400) is coming off a win at the Masters where he cruised to victory, winning by four strokes. Remarkably, he has clinched victory in three out of his last four PGA Tour starts, maintaining an unbroken streak of top-10 finishes this season. At Harbour Town, his sole appearance resulted in a commendable T11 finish.
Xander Schauffele (+1000) has finished inside the top 10 in seven of his last nine starts on the PGA Tour. This will be his fifth trip to Hilton Head with his best finish of 4th coming last year.
Rory McIlroy (+1200) will make his third appearance in the RBC Heritage having finished T41 in 2020 and T58 in 2009. He’s finished inside the top 25 in each of his last six starts. His best finish during that span was 3rd at the Valero Texas Open.
Ludvig Aberg (+1200) finished runner-up at the Masters last week in his tournament debut. After a slow start to the season, Aberg has four top-10 finishes in his last seven starts. This will be his first time playing in the RBC Heritage.
Patrick Cantlay (+1200) has finished inside the top 3 in four of his six prior appearances at Harbour Town. However, he has yet to win here despite coming close several times. Cantlay has only cracked the top 10 once this season which was at the Genesis Invitational. Last week at the Masters, Cantlay finished T22.

This will be an amazing fight between a former champion and a great contender. Jiri is still fresh off of a bad shoulder injury which happened almost two years ago in training. After he tried to come back to regain his title, he was thrown right into the ring with champion and UFC 300 headliner in Alex Pereira. Now I am not sure if Jiri was still compromised physically, but he certainly was mentally trying to take down Alex early and then losing the fight with hits to the head. The fight was stopped early into the second round last November. With all of this uncertainty, the very same could be said for Aleksander Rakic when he blew his leg abut against Jan Blachowicz back in May of 2022. I would almost rate the injury uncertainty as equal, but Jiri certainly wins the ring rust factor has he was just fighting less than six months ago. Rakic is a tall fighter at 6’4 who throws a lot of blows, but isn’t all that seasoned on the ground as he much prefers his fights on the feat. Jiri is the stronger contender here, and tends to finish his fights early against top competition. Jiri’s decision rate is only 3% while Rakic is at 23%. If you look at some of the ways that both fighters could win, I have to side with Jiri here. Maybe a stand up fight should be more of an equal match with Jiri throwing more blows at 5.31 significant strikes per minute to Aleksandar at 4.01, but the reason that Jiri should be the favorite is that he has the ground game to use if needed as we saw when he fought Glover Teixeira. Rakic hasn’t really fought a lot of guys that are great on the ground minus the fight that he broke his knee on against an aging Jan Blachowicz. I also think that the fact that Rakic called Jiri a fake samurai in a recent interview might add a little extra fuel to the fire here. I will take Jiri here.
