NHL Future Picks – Metropolitan Division

The Metropolitan Division should be one of the most compelling in the 2025-26 NHL season. Between Stanley Cup contenders like Carolina, rising playoff hopefuls, and teams still finding their identity, the division sets up plenty of intriguing betting opportunities.

In this article, I’ll share my favorite futures bets for the Metropolitan Division.

New York Rangers

Adam Fox over 70+ Points (+165) – FanDuel

Adam Fox enters his seventh NHL season looking to bounce back after a down year in 2024-25. Despite battling injuries, he still produced 61 points (10 goals, 51 assists) in 74 games. In the three seasons prior, Fox posted 73, 72, and 74 points, proving his consistency as one of the league’s elite offensive defensemen.

This season, Fox will be paired with Vladislav Gavrikov, a steady stay-at-home blueliner who should free him up to drive the offense even more. If he can stay relatively healthy, Fox has an excellent chance to clear the 70-point mark, a milestone he’s hit in three of the past four seasons.

Philadelphia Flyers

Matvei Michkov over 70+ Points (+115) – FanDuel

Matvei Michkov enters his second NHL season after an impressive rookie year where he posted 63 points (26 goals, 37 assists) in 80 games. It wasn’t all smooth sailing, as his offensive style often clashed with former head coach John Tortorella, who was let go late in the season. After the coaching change, Michkov took off, recording 12 points in just 9 games.

This year, Michkov is projected to skate on the Flyers’ second line alongside Owen Tippett and newly acquired Trevor Zegras. Zegras brings a much-needed offensive boost to a Philadelphia team that ranked 24th in goals per game and 30th on the power play last season. His arrival should open up more scoring opportunities for Michkov at even strength and with the man advantage.

With Zegras in the mix and Rick Tocchet stepping in behind the bench, Michkov is in a strong position to build on his rookie totals and clear the 70-point mark in his sophomore campaign.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Sidney Crosby over 84.5 Points (-115) – DraftKings/ 90+ Points (+210) – FanDuel

  • Eagles have won 19 of their last 20 games since losing to Tampa in Week 4 of 2024

🔥 Key Storylines

  • Super Bowl Pedigree vs. Grit: The Eagles have won 19 of their last 20 games, including Super Bowl LIX. The Bucs, meanwhile, have opened the season with three last-minute wins, showcasing resilience and clutch play.

  • Red Zone Efficiency: Eagles are 8-for-8 scoring TDs in the red zone—best in the NFL.

  • Turnover Battle: Bucs have committed zero turnovers this season; Eagles have forced three.

🧠 Prediction

Prediction:

This should be a great game of undefeated teams, but the numbers do not seem to be adding up.  I can’t understand why the Eagles are laying this road chalk.  I know that they are the super bowl champs, but their numbers have been very average thus far.  Philadelphia has gotten by with some close wins.  They only ranks 12th in offensive EPA, and 16th on defense.   The Buccaneers rank 5th and 12th respectively.   Now we know of the Mike Evans injury, and it could affect the home pirates, but this team should be getting Chris Godwin back, and combined with Emeka Egbuka, I believe that they will be able to move the ball deep.   I also like the fact that left tackle Tristan Wirfs should be back and ready to play.  The Eagles have a few injury issues on their own with their top CB Adorree Jackson being out.   There is still no LB Nakobe Dean to anchor in the middle of this defense.   The Eagles do not care to win by Margin, and I think the Bucs are live here.  Super Bowl hangover says bet the Buccaneers.

Buccaneers +3.5

  • Betting Line: Ohio State favored by 8 points; Over/Under set at 51.5

🔴 Ohio State Buckeyes

  • Freshman RB Bo Jackson has emerged as a breakout star, averaging over 12 yards per carry last game.

  • Defense: Led by Sonny Styles, the Buckeyes will need to contain Washington’s dual-threat QB Demond Williams.

  • Road Strength: Ohio State has won 19 straight road games against unranked opponents.

🟣 Washington Huskies

  • QB Demond Williams Jr. is a true dual threat, throwing for 298 yards and rushing for 88 in their last game.

  • Home Dominance: Washington boasts a 22-game home win streak dating back to 2022.

  • Injuries: Starting linebacker Buddha Al-Uqdah and top cornerback may be out, which could expose their defense.

  • Efficiency: The Huskies convert 75% of third downs and rarely turn the ball over.

🔍 Key Matchups

Matchup Edge
QB Play Ohio State (Sayin’s accuracy vs. Williams’ mobility)
WR Depth Ohio State (Smith & Tate are elite)
Home Field Washington (Husky Stadium is notoriously loud)
Defensive Pressure Even (Buckeyes more consistent, Huskies opportunistic)

🌤️ Weather Forecast for Game Day – Ohio State vs. Washington

Expect near-perfect football conditions in Seattle this Saturday:

  • Temperature at Kickoff (3:30 PM ET): 65°F and sunny

  • Afternoon High: Around 72°F, mostly cloudy

  • Chance of Rain: Just 14% — low enough not to worry

  • Wind: Light breeze at 3–6 mph, gusts up to 11 mph

Prediction:

This may be the real game of the week with apologies to the SEC.  It just depends upon how close this outcome actually is.  I am not going to lie, I am disappointed that this spread isn’t double digits right now.  I was hoping it would go back to 13 or so, but it goes to show you that this Husky team is for real.  In saying that, my number is pretty close to this.  I also do not know what I am getting from young Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin on the road.  Same situation as all these young quarterbacks. It is usually a fade spot, but Ohio State is a powerful team. The Buckeye’s rank 6th in offensive success rate and 22nd in offensive EPA.   They also have the best defense in college football, but the schedule of offenses has been pretty week thus far.  The Huskies on the other end of things have a powerful offense themselves.  Led by quarterback Demond Williams, this Husky team ranks 6th in QBR, 3rd in offensive EPA, and 9th in yards per play at 7.92.  Another thing that we know is that Washington’s defense has been suspect.  This team has had themselves a pretty easy schedule, yet they only rank 43rd in success rate and 55th in EPA.  Looking at all of this, I like the over.  I think that both teams will be very hard to stop when the ball is moving down field.  Right now, Washington is 3-0 to the over, and I think that this trend continues.  Worst case scenario, if this is an Ohio State blowout, I think that they might be able to cover this total mostly themselves.  Take the over for now unless this spread crawls back up.

Over 52.5 – 2 stars

USC vs Illinois +7 O/U 59.5

  • The best sports bettors look for spots where the public is down on a team, and there is some perceived value in the line.  This week, there is no better game than USC vs Illinois for this type of spot.  This line was USC -1.5 only a week ago.
  • Did Illinois get their asses handed to them last week at Indiana?   Absolutely, but that doesn’t mean that USC should be playing these kind of road points.
  • No team is as good or as bad as they were the week before.  USC is coming into this game on long travel and in a much different time slot at 9:00AM pacific time.  I doubt these kids are even up for class yet.
  • The Trojans haven’t played anybody before Michigan State, and what I saw was a defense that allows yards and points.  The Trojans defensive success rate ranks 53rd in the nation, while their rushing success rate is 93rd.
  • As bad as Illinois has looked, they at least played tougher teams against a Western Michigan team that just beat Tulane.  They had to go to Duke to bludgeon them, and they faced a top 10 team in Indiana.  USC has played Missouri State, Georgia Southern, and one of the worst big 10 teams in Purdue before Sparty at home.
  • This will be USC’s first real road test in Champaign, and I think that things can go wrong for quarterback Jayden Maiava.  This line was around +2.5 or +3 the week before.  This is a huge overreaction at 7.  Take the points.

Illinois +7 – 2 stars

College Football Friday Freebie – Florida State vs Virginia – Sports Betting

Florida State vs Virginia +7 O/U 60

  • This fun friday game caught my eye.  Ok, what do we really know about Florida State?
  • Well, the beat Alabama pretty good on week 1. Then they played two tomato cans that are probably more like artichoke cans.   Tomato cans are too good to describe Kent State.
  • Look, we still haven’t seen Florida State and Tommy Castellanos on the road. That is a major concern to me when ranking this team.
  • Now I am not saying that Virginia has had a good schedule themselves, but what I do know is that they have a pretty solid offense.
  • The Wahoos are averaging 7.7 yards per play. They should have beaten NC State on the road, and ended up choking the game away.
  • Alabama was the big opponent against Florida State, but we also know that they dropped a ton of passes from week one, and it was Ty Simpson’s first big road start. Maybe in Alabama, this game goes differently.
  • Virginia’s offense ranks 26th in EPA and 16th in yards per play. Their defense isn’t great, but it at least ranks 29th in EPA on an easy schedule.  My power ratings have this number at 6.5, and I think that this would be a huge win for the Wahoos if they can get it done.

Virginia +7 – 2.5 stars
