LA Rams vs Indianapolis Colts PK O/U 45

The Colts beat the Ravens last week.   As Chris Farley once said, “well wooopty freaking doo.”   The Ravens were very banged up and had a lot going against them including a Justin Tucker missed field goal.  It took the Colts overtime and a massive performance from kicker Matt Gay hitting a record four field goals over 50 yards.   Now the Colts aren’t as bad as they used to be, but they are now going back to unproven rookie Anthony Richardson at quarterback, and they are in a let down spot.  Why not stay with Minshew?  The Rams are a better team thus far than I thought coming into the season.   On offense, they rank 8th in overall EPA while the Colts rank 24th, and on defense, LA Ranks 21s while the Colts rank 7th.   More importantly, the current strength of schedule difference is off the Charts.  The Colts faced Jacksonville, Houston and an injured Baltimore team to the Rams facing Seattle, San Francisco and Super Bowl contender Cincinnati.  I like LA here to stop Anthony Richardson and get the win.

Florida vs Kentucky -1.5 O/U 44

I have seen enough Graham Mertz in my life to wonder why Kentucky is only a slight favorite in this game.  Florida has no doubt had the harder schedule, but I think that win against Tennessee was more about Tennessee being flat than Florida being good.  Florida has the better offensive and defensive success rates thus far, but Kentucky has the better yards per play at 2.82 to Florida’s 1.56.   Devon Leary has been throwing the ball downfield a lot and I don’t think that Florida’s secondary has really been tested away from home.   Florida is a terrible road team.  Since 2019, the Gators are a dismal 35% ATS on the road at 6-11-1.  Kentucky after four games has the number 1 offense in explosiveness while Florida’s defense ranks 132 in explosiveness which is 2nd from last.   Take the Wildcats.

Kentucky -1.5 – 2.5 stars

Clemson vs Syracuse +7 O/U 52.5

This is an interesting game to say the least.  Cuse always plays Clemson tough, and they have covered the last 7 out of 9 spreads against the Tigers.  Syracuse owns most of the stats here.  They have a 2.8 yards per play margin while Clemson has a 1.8.  Clemson has definitely had the harder schedule thus far playing teams like Florida State and Duke, but Syracuse at least played Purdue and a tough military school like Army.  Syracuse has a stout defense thus far against the run only allowing only 2.5 yards per rush.   This should force the hand of Cade Klubnik who has been sloppy with the ball with fumbles and a few interceptions.  Garrett Shrader has been a solid veteran quarterback thus far and he knows how to win games.  I think whomever turns the ball over less will win this game.   I also think that it’s hard to guage Clemson’s motivation after getting knocked out of the CFB playoffs.   Has to be tough on this team to continue when they had higher aspirations.  My number is Clemson -3.5 here so we are grabbing the points and sprinkling the ML

We have ourselves an NFC North clash, with division title aspirations in mind for each team. Considering Minnesota is 0-3, and the Bears are arguably or not arguably the worst team in football, the NFC North winner will most likely come from one of these two squads. Making Thursday night’s game even more important for tiebreaker terms, confidence, and momentum as we progress into the 2023 season.

Look were in week 4, talking division titles I know is crazy to even bring up, but I also think it shows the significance of this game.

What I think will end up being the difference in winning and losing this game is quite simple. It will ultimately come down to the head coaches. Whose team is better prepared tonight will end up being victorious. Dan Campbell is now in his 4th year in Detroit and has all the buzz and hype surrounding his Lions. Winning week 1 at Arrowhead has made this hype and talk even more inevitable. Now I question, was this win a slight overreaction? Absolutely. No Chris Jones and more importantly there was no Travis Kelce in an offense who is still finding their stride in 2023 as we enter week 4. They went on to split home games vs Seattle and Atlanta in weeks 2/3, and now go back on the road on a short week to Lambeau. Where he will face the winning machine Matt LaFleur who is 49-20 in his tenure in GB. Winning 13 games in each of his first three seasons. Now you’re probably thinking, well yeah, he had Aaron Rodgers as his QB of course he won many games. To me it’s more than that. The preparation for his teams is second to none. Which greatly favors Jordan Love, because from a pure talent standpoint, the Lions obviously have the edge at QB with Goff, as opposed to Love. But, when you have your OC and HC “giving you the answers” (my famous term, or hope to be famous one day), these guys are WIDE open.

I think this game will end up boiling down to the Packer O-line vs Detroit’s ferocious D-line. Will the Pack OL hold up long enough, to give Love ample time to make these throws. The Packers have been playing 2023 without their #1 WR in Christian Watson, regardless of your opinion on him, he was and still is considered their number 1 option through the air. Joining Watson will be reliable tailback Aaron Jones who can beat you on the ground as well as the air, who missed weeks 2 and 3 due to a hamstring issue.

I just think in the end with Detroit playing a division foe on a short week, with a head coach who can make drastic mistakes jeopardizing his team at any time is a recipe for disaster. Give me the cheeseheads with the points on Thursday at Lambeau!

NFL Week 3 Misleading Final Scores

  • The Packers out-gained the Saints 340 to 252 yet only won by 1 point.  A 1-0 turnover ratio and 10 penalties hurt the Pack.
  • Nothing misleading in the 726 yards 70 point Dolphin/Broncos game.
  • The Jaguars out-gained the Texans 404 to 366 yet lost 37-17.   A 2-0 turnover ratio but more the poor special teams was a big part of this.
  • The Ravens out-gained the Colts 364 to 327 yet lost 22-19.  Poor special teams and poor officiating got the Ravens.
  • The Cowboys out-gained the Cardinals 416 to 400 yet lost 28-16.  A 1-0 turnover ratio, poor red zone, and 13 penalties got the Cowboys.
  • The Raiders out-gained the Steelers 362 to 333 yet lost 23-18.  A 3-0 turnover ratio did them in.  Jimmy G is also banged up with poor coaching hurt the Raiders.
