Back the High Flying Beam Team

If you enjoy my content, head over to Twitter and give me a follow @TrustRocco. It’s worth it, most importantly because you get access to all my plays right now for free. Let’s build together!

Milwaukee at Sacramento +2 (O/U 244.5) 10:00pm ET

The high flying, high scoring Sacramento Kings take on arguably the #1 team in basketball Monday night. Averaging 132 points a game in their L9 and have not been held to under 122 points in almost three weeks. They have won 8 of their last 9 and 4 out of 5 at home.

Now taking on the Bucks is a tough task, but I believe they landed them at the best moment. With Milwaukee playing their 4th road game in their L5, and have traveled quite a bit since March 1st. Now flip the script. When Sacramento arrived home on March 1st, they played only 5 games and made one round of traveling, that was too Phoenix. Winning 4 of those 5, while beating the Clippers, the Knicks and the Suns. Ironically though, they have played 12 of their last 19 away from home.

The Kings have shot 53% in their L5 and 39% from downtown. This will need to keep up in order to beat Milwaukee, luckily for them the Bucks have struggled defending the 3 recently. Giving up 38% in their L5, but more importantly opponents staying in games with the way of the 3. The Kings get to the line and do it often, averaging 29 free throw attempts a game, as well as committing only 11 turnovers a game in their L5. Both of these are important when fatigue sets in late in this game for Milwaukee. If you wanted to find a weakness on the Bucks, they average 15 turnovers in their L5. Meaning extra possessions for Sacramento and getting bonus stops.

Backing Sacramento as dogs and on 1 day’s rest has been a recipe for success. They’re 26-11-1 ATS this season on 1-DR, 4-0 ATS in their L4. As dogs they have won and covered in 5 of their last 6. As good as Milwaukee is, recently they’re 1-4 ATS their L5 vs teams over .500, as well as 6-10-1 ATS overall for the season playing teams over .500 on the road. As opposed to 5-0 ATS vs teams under .500 their L5.

I’m on Sac town tonight with a strong UNIT UPGRADE!

Kings +2 (DraftKings -110) 1.75 units

Let’s get this in the winner’s circle to kick off March Madness week!

NHL Preview & Picks – March 13th, 2023

We only have three games taking place across the NHL tonight. I’ll break down my best bets along with a few player props to take a look at.

Pick(s):

[All plays are to win 1 Unit unless otherwise noted]

  • Seattle Kraken (+104) – FanDuel

The Kraken are coming off an overtime loss against the Stars in their most recent game. Seattle outshot Dallas in that matchup but, Philipp Grubauer struggled finishing with a -1.24 Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx). While Dallas is sticking with Jake Oettinger in net tonight, while Seattle has decided to switch things up and have Martin Jones start. After a strong start to the season, Oettinger has fallen off a bit allowing at least three goals in each of his last four starts. Martin Jones will get his first start since March 2nd.

Dallas is in the middle of a six-game road trip and have won their first two games. Seattle is on their last game of a four-game homestand where they haven’t been great going 1-2. The Kraken also need every point possible as they’re in a playoff battle with Edmonton for the 3rd seed in the Pacific.

As a home underdog tonight, I think we see a much more inspired effort from the Kraken as they look to take revenge on a team that just beat them.

Player Props to Target:

  • Artturi Lehkonen over 2.5 Shots on Goal (+118) – FanDuel
    • Artturi Lehkonen has gone over this number in just two of his last five games. During that span, he’s averaging 2.4 shots on goal and 3.2 shot attempts per game. However, on the road, he’s recorded over 2.5 shots on goal in four of his last five. The Canadiens rank 28th in shots on goal allowed per game averaging 33.76. At home, that number drops slightly to 32.12. Montreal has also given up the 5th most shots on goal per game to Left Wingers this year. In their previous matchup against the Canadiens this year, Lehkonen recorded 3 shots on goal in 5 attempts.
  • Valeri Nichushkin over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-130) – FanDuel
    • Valeri Nichushkin has gone over this number in three of his last five games. During that span, he’s averaging 3.0 shots on goal and 4.2 shot attempts per game. Dallas has also given up the 5th most shots on goal per game to Right Wingers in their last ten games.
  • Nathan MacKinnon over 4.5 Shots on Goal (-148) – FanDuel

  • Mitchell Marner over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-155) – DraftKings

No Dame-No Problem. A Pair of NBA plays

If you enjoy my content, head over to Twitter and give me a follow @TrustRocco. It’s worth it for numerous reasons, most importantly access to all my plays right now while they are still free. Let’s build together and win together!

Portland at New Orleans -2 (O/U 221.5) 7:00pm ET

Things might look a little different Sunday night when these two teams take the court. The Pelicans went into Portland and beat them just 11 days ago, Simons only played for a short time and left the game and Nurkic still was not back yet. Well, Nurkic is back, Simons was tremendous two nights ago in his true comeback game, and the Blazers come into tonight in a huge revenge spot. The Pels have won the last 4 out of 5 in this series, but Simons/Nurkic were vacant in 3 of the 4 losses.

Now comes the elephant in the room, Dame is out and can they perform with out him. Surprisingly they have held their own without him. If you talk to me, you know my opinion. “When the true stars miss a game, the other guys step up.” It’s all mental, the guys around him play in the NBA, they’re good enough in the NBA and their best characters appear when truly needed.

Yes this is game 6 of a 6 game road trip, but due to injuries some of the starters are all actually well rested. The Blazers have played good ball as of late IMO. Winners in 2 of 5, but more importantly playing the 76ers down to the wire in a game they most definitely could have won. With the 3 losses coming against three strong Eastern Conference playoff teams.

The Pelicans on the other hand are reeling quickly, comparable to a caught fish on the verge of extinction. Now one game out of the play-in bracket, Zion is still not on the court and have lost 8 of their last 9 games. Also New Orleans will be playing its 2nd straight game without high % shooter Brandon Ingram. This is a strong UNIT UPGRADE for me. Let’s go BLAZERS!

New York at LA Lakers -2.5 (O/U 226) 9:00pm ET

There is an abundance of indicators for this to be a low scoring affair. Like I stated in my previous article, the Lakers have improved tremendously since the All-Star break. Mostly in the defensive categories. While they still do run at a high pace, it hasn’t really shown up on the scoreboard. Mostly because they’re unable to shoot at a high rate. Yes I know they came off a game where they shot 56%(field) and 43%(3’s), but that was against Toronto who my local high school team would be able to score against right now. Previous to that in their last 6 games, minus the Golden State game since they have just completely quit playing defense. The Lake show has shot 44% in those 5 games.

Now let’s discuss the Knicks, they are playing their 6th game in 10 days, with 5 of them being on the road in 4 different cities. Fatigue was stated by Josh Hart in a recent interview and it surely has shown. Averaging 105 points a game in their last 3, while shooting an incompetent 36%. Brunson will miss his 2nd straight game, leaving the Knicks without their signal caller.

New York has gone under 3 straight, also staying under on the road in 4 of 6. While the Lakers have gone under 4 of 5 at home, also 6 of 9 with 1 pushing. I will land on the under here.

Duke vs Virginia +2.5 O/U 123

Things are looking a little different here with this Blue Devils team.   At one point they were overrated with injuries to Roach and Dariq Whitehead in the heart of the season, but now I think this team is poised to cut down the Nets.  Virginia is a solid team this year but not championship caliber.  They only shoot 51.7% effective FG% and their free throws are god awful at 69.9%.   Duke on the other hand has improved their game drastically and they actually play some defense this year ranking 31st in defensive efficiency and believe it or not, 12th in total rebounds.   Virginia ranks 300th in total rebounds which won’t bode well for a team that can’t shoot all that well.   Since the third week of January, Bart Torvik ranks Duke 18th in efficiency and Virginia is at 42.  7’0 Kyle Filipowski has been an absolute beast down low.   Grab Duke on the money-line.

Duke PK -135 – 3 stars

Xavier vs Marquette -1.5 O/U 154.5

Bravo Xavier.  You made the title game and shocked the world by beating Creighton.   Let’s face it though, you jumped this team going up over 20 points in the first half and ended up coasting the rest of the way.   Marquette proved something to me yesterday.  They can play on both sides of the ball as well as score from deep.   Scoring from deep is the key here.   Both of these teams rank in the top 9 in effective FG%, but on defense, Xavier allows 52.2% away from home while Marquette is at about 50.1%.   We also have to remember that Xavier is still without their best player in Zach Freemantle who was injured vs Creighton in late January and is out for the season.   This will affect their rebounding the ball which is so important in these big games.   Take Marquette as the short favorite.

Marquette -1.5 – 2 stars

Back this Blue Group of Freshman

Duke vs UNC +2 (O/U 123.5) 8:30pm ET

Sweet revenge. This will be on the Blue Devils mind heading into their semi final match-up with Virginia Saturday night. When they played at UVA just about a month ago, they had the game in their hands for most of it, until roughly the 5 minute mark where the Cavs used an 8-0 run to take the lead. It would then go on to OT where UVA would streak away late. A game they definitely want back, but the ironic part is they held 7’0 foot freshman sensation Filipowski to ZERO points. That loss was the start, the start to their recent resurgence, winning 8 straight. With Filipowski averaging almost 17 points a game during this win streak. They have shown no signs of slowing down, shooting 52.7% in the ACC tournament, while averaging 90 points a game in the two contests.

Now I know many say, the ACC doesn’t play a whole lot of defense. Well their right, it’s pretty rough. The Cavaliers have faced exactly that as of late, facing L’ville X2, UNC X2, Clemson X2, Notre Dame and BC. A tier of schools who rank mostly low defensively. Virginia can go in scoring droughts, we just haven’t seen it recently due to lack of opponents. Well now they face the Dukies! In their last 5 Duke has given up 39.7/29.8% shooting, with only 10 assists per game. The Cavs haven’t seen this type of defense in some time, and I believe Duke’s defense will get them to the finish line. Not to mention this group of mostly freshmen, have grown together as a unit and matured over the last 4 weeks.

This will be a UNIT UPGRADE for me on the Blue Devils!

A Late Night NBA Play, as we head to LA

If you enjoy my content, head to Twitter and give me a follow @TrustRocco

Toronto at LA Lakers +2.5 (O/U 224.5) 10:30pm ET

The Lakers have vastly improved since the All-Star break, specifically in one category, defensively. Granted, they really don’t have any signature wins, but you can only beat what they put in front of you. Winning 5 of their last 7 games since the break, as well as winning 5 of their last 6 home games. Keep in mind they have been Lebron-less in their last 3, but still finding ways to win. The ‘Brow’ has definitely stepped up into that dynamic role, averaging 33 points a game in his L5. Even with a bloody nose after getting a right hook from David Roddy Wednesday, he came back in and led them to victory.

Now for their defense, they have averaged 110.7 points a game since the break, which drops to 107 a game at home. Also only giving up 42.7% shooting in those seven. I like the fact they’re 9-4 ATS as short dogs, this spot fits them perfectly. As well as 7-4 ATS on 2 days rest, or what I call the extra day. They have seemed to perform well vs lower level competition, going 16-7 ATS vs teams under .500.

Toronto is playing 7 of 8 away, and as good as there offense has looked at ‘times’, they’re only averaging 102.5 points a game. They have lost 5 of 7, and teams are shooting all over them at over 52% a game since the break, and quite honestly a high % most of the season.

In the midst of a tight playoff race, every game is a must win all the way out for the Lake show. I think Toronto’s rough schedule catches up with them tonight, and they will run out of gas. Providing the Lakers with their 3rd straight win.

Lakers +2.5 (Caesars -110) 1.2 units

Penn State vs Northwestern PK O/U 130.5

Let’s try this again.  Northwestern must hate their home court because they lost to teams like Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State but for some reason when they leave their friendly confines of Evansville Illinois, they are 8-3 ATS as an away team.  Northwestern isn’t the greatest shooting team in the Big 10 ranking 309th in effective FG%, but they at least do not turn over the ball ranking 21st in turnovers.   The Wildcats win on defense ranking 19th in overall defensive efficiency.   Penn State is quite the opposite.  The Nittany Lions rank 15th in offensive efficiency and 125th on defense.  They shoot the three ball well ranking 7th in the nation, but they can’t defense it all that well.   Don’t get me wrong, Penn State has done well for themselves this season led by Jalen Pickett who will be playing at the next level, but Northwestern should be able to slow him down this time with Chase Audige on him who is a very experienced and motivated senior.   I trust the defense to travel to Indianapolis more than the offense of Penn State.   Northwestern ranks 24th in away from home splits while Penn State ranks 310th.  Take the Cats but if the opportunity to hedge presents itself, I would also try for a middle.

Northwestern PK – 2 stars
