Rob Vinciletti: Saturday Conf. USA Tournament Pick and Preview
College Basketball Conference Tournament Saturday Super-Plays – Sports Betting
Kentucky vs Tennessee +2.5 O/U 139
I have to think that these two teams might be the best lift in the SEC especially with Auburn and LSU out of the mix. In saying that, I have to look at these two teams from a matchup standpoint. Kentucky is fantastic near proximity ranking number 2 in the nation, but Tennessee is 14th in guarding it. Tennessee only ranks number 115th on offense near the rim and Kentucky 62nd on defense. Advantage Kentucky. From three point land, neither team is great at defending it but Kentucky ranks 14th in the nation in shooting the three vs the average opponent and Tennessee ranks 51st. Advantage Kentucky. From a coaching standpoint, Rick Barns has never been a good late season/tournament coach while John Calipari has credentials that are very hard to match. Advantage Kentucky. The most important stat to me during this game is really the home/away from homes splits. Kentucky ranks 196th away from home and Tennessee ranks 329th. That is significant enough for me to lay points under the 3.
Kentucky -2.5 – 2 stars
Virginia Tech vs Duke -6 O/U 137
It has been a pretty common theme here with the Duke boys during the tournament. They have been coming out of the gate slow. It’s hard to quantify why that is, but I think that there is value playing the recent trend. Looking at the whole season, Duke is a deserving favorite but it should be a tad under the spread at about 5 points. The reason for that is the recent trends on these teams. Duke hasn’t covered their last three games while Virginia tech has dominated and has gotten better especially from a defensive perspective. Virginia tech has also dominated the first halves in their last 5 games. They are methodical and slow the game down. The trend lines show a massive increase in all play percentage for Virginia Tech on Haslmetrics and a downslope for Duke.

Now I don’t trust Virginia Tech and the “momentum” for the full game due to Duke’s easy first two games and the Coach K farewell rally, but I like the Pokes for the first half.
Virginia Tech 1st half +3 – 2.5 stars
Premiums, 3.12
How about them Hornets! The MIN/ORL over not hitting was a complete fluke-they scored 38 combined points in the 4th QTR after averaging well over 60 points per QTR before that, unreal, but we’ll take a 3-2, +2.2 unit night! Onto Saturday! Let’s keep rolling!
- Timberwolves +6, 1 unit
- Both teams are off a back to back but after that pedestrian finish for Minnesota and because of how explosive they CAN be, something tells me they stay in this game with Miami. The Heat are off a B2B, too, and Miami could get easily overwhelmed by the T-Wolves pace and output.
- Bucks -1, 2 units
- As good as the Warriors can be, the current version of the Bucks is a way better team than the current version of Golden State. The Warriors will fight hard but ultimately, the Bucks should pull ahead here. They’ll have NO answer for Giannis in the paint.
- Wizards -6, 1 unit
- This is how bad Portland is right now. Gross as hell, but I’m taking it.
- UMBC +15.5
- Texas A&M +5.5
- Iowa -6
- Arizona -1.5
- McKinney (+145)

March 11th CBB Free Play
I’m back today with 3 plays looking to right the ship after a subpar 2 day stretch. In addition to this free play, I also have 2 plays reserved for premium members. Premium plays are hitting at a 56.5% clip and have netted my members +48u over a 6 month stretch. Click here to become a premium member, and let’s start the weekend out hot!
*CBB(1u): Michigan State +2.5(-110) vs Wisconsin–5:30 PM CT
Michigan State squeaked by Maryland with a 4 point win yesterday; while that wasn’t a dominant win, I believe getting their feet wet gives them a bit of an advantage entering today’s matchup. Wisconsin is coming off an embarrassing home loss to Nebraska that saw their star guard and Big 10 Player of the Year Johnny Davis go down with an injury. Davis should play, but he will almost certainly be operating at less than full strength. Even with Davis healthy, I think Wisconsin is an overvalued commodity. The Badgers shoot just 42.7% from the floor, 31.3% from 3-point range, and average just 11 assists per game. Michigan State grabs 2.2 more rebounds/game than Wisconsin and features a monster in Marcus Bingham Jr down low, who averages 2.2 blocks/game. Unlike Wisconsin, Michigan State can really shoot the 3-ball; their 38.7% rate from deep puts them in the Top 10 in 3-point percentage. Michigan State also moves the ball around a lot better, averaging nearly 16 assists per game compared to the Badgers’ 11. This line might seem short given the perception around Wisconsin, but I actually make the Badgers only a slight 1-1.5 point favorite here. Michigan State didn’t play great down the stretch this year, but they’re catching Wisconsin at a vulnerable time and have many matchup advantages that they can exploit today. I like Sparty to beat Wisconsin outright for the second time this year, but I will always take the points in this type of spot.
March 11th Premium Plays
*CBB(1.5u): Saint Louis +1(-110) vs St Bonaventure–1:30 PM CT
Saint Louis looked great on both ends of the floor in their first round matchup with La Salle yesterday, eventually winning 71-51. Now, the Billikens will face a St Bonaventure team that hasn’t played in a week and are prime candidates to come out of the gates rusty. Saint Louis is simply superior in almost every offensive category, but one huge disparity is that they shoot nearly 5% better from 3-point range than St Bonaventure does. Not only do I like SLU’s offense better, but they are also the more physical team on the defensive end of the floor, grabbing 4 more rebounds/game and ranking 30 spots higher than the Bonnies in defensive efficiency. St Bonaventure was able to beat this SLU team twice in the regular season, but I think the momentum is all on Saint Louis’s side having gotten their feet wet in Washington DC yesterday. I rate Saint Louis almost 3 points better on a neutral court, and with the dynamics on their side, I have no hesitation playing them as a slight dog as today’s best bet.
*NBA(1u): Rockets +10.5(-110) vs Mavericks–7:10 PM CT
Don’t look now, but the Rockets are playing some really solid basketball at the moment. Over their last 3 games, they have home wins against the Grizzlies and Lakers, and vibes seem to be high around this young roster. I know this organization is far from where it used to be, but this isn’t the first time the Rockets have gone on a hot stretch this season. We saw them win 7 straight games back in late November/early December; when this team catches fire, they tend to go on a nice little streak. In any case, Dallas is nowhere close to being where they need to be to be laying double-digits on the road. The Mavs just lost by 30 at home to the Knicks and aren’t playing well on either end of the floor. While this is typically a trustworthy team, Dallas has won by double-digits just once since January 29th. Even at their best, the Mavs are not built to blow teams out given their lack of offensive firepower. Houston is playing well at the moment, and they are going to give Dallas everything it can handle. I’ll take the 10.5 points with the Rockets given their strong current form.

Premiums, 3.11
Shitty Thursday but that’s why we had low exposure and that’s why we avoid betting on choke-artist 19 year olds, for the most part. Texas? UVA? Gross.
NBA Picks:
- MINN/ORL over 233, 2 units
- Absolutely no chance I can’t not take the over here. The Magic run at a hyper-fast pace and the Minnesota offense has been putting up nearly 130 ppg recently. Orlando has had some low-yield, low-scoring games the past week but these two tempo teams should only cultivate one another. And despite Minnesota probably being due some negative regression eventually, is THIS the spot against the mealy-mouth Magic? Na. I don’t see how this doesn’t go over – I have this at 242! Trust in the T-Wolves!
- Knicks +9.5, 1 unit
- The Knicks have become a play-on team for me and here’s why: they remind me of the Knicks of last year: sticking to blue collar defense, 2 point basketball, and max-effort every game. The Grizzlies are one of the best teams in the NBA but the Knicks are way more motivated here. 9.5 is too many points. Their last 3 wins must give them renewed confidence.
- Lean, Hawks -6 (they need to get right)
- Lean, Celtics -14 (why the hell not? They’ve been DOMINANT)
- Hornets -1.5 (but up to -7), 2.5 units
- I was able to somehow snag this at -1.5 somehow, which feels like cheating, but there’s NO WAY I can’t take the Hornets here. McCollum is out, Ingram is out, and without their two stars the Pelicans surge is officially over. The Hornets desperately need wins and this should be a perfect opportunity for them to overwhelm a weakened New Orleans’ unit.
- Suns -6, 1 unit
- As much as I like the Raptors, the version I’m seeing of the Suns lately (even without CP3) has been VERY impressive. I can’t play off the Suns right now and this feels like a major difference in class. Phoenix, at home, in rhythm – VanFleet and Trent Jr. better put on a show if they want to stay in this one. Moved this down to only 1 unit since Toronto could be feisty here, purely based on motivation to move up the rankings.
- Heat -5.5, 1.5 units
- Yea we’re playing the Heat here. Jimmy Butler should return (this is not a guarantee and we may pull out of this bet if he doesn’t play- buyer beware) and Miami is coming off that HORRENDOUS and embarrassing loss to the Suns at home. This a major get-right game for the Heat and the Cavs are no match for a motivated Miami unit. I’d take this up to 6 with Jimmy in.
- Illinois -5
- Cincinnati +12
- Wisconsin -2
- UCONN +3.5
