Rookie QB J.J. McCarthy is riding high after a dramatic Week 1 comeback win over the Bears (27–24).
He went 13/20 for 143 yards, 2 passing TDs, and a game-winning rushing TD.
Named NFC Offensive Player of the Week, McCarthy’s poise under pressure is drawing comparisons to Caleb Williams and Bo Nix.

Falcons Grit:

Michael Penix Jr. impressed in his debut despite a heartbreaking 23–20 loss to Tampa Bay.
He threw for 298 yards, 1 TD, and added a rushing score on an 18-play drive.
RB Bijan Robinson was electric as a receiver (6 catches, 100 yards, 1 TD), though the run game stalled.

Prediction:

This line makes little sense to me. Last week, the Falcons should have beaten the Bucs if it wasn’t for terrible kicking and rough calls that went against them. The Vikings on the other hand got the calls needed to kick it into high gear in the second half and pull away from the Chicago Bears. If you look at JJ McCarthy from Monday night, it was certainly a tale of two halves. JJ was terrible in the first 30 minutes, and great in the second. That overall performance is the kind of inconsistency that I would like to fade. The Bears were the better team who lost the game last week. I feel that both teams here are relatively close in strength. Looking at the matchup in the trenches, the Falcons should be able to move the ball against this suspect Vikings defense both on the ground and through the air, as the Bears did in week one. Also, keep in mind that the Vikings are pretty banged up as some key players are out in WR Jordan Addison, LB Blake Cashman, CB Jeff Okudah, Edge Andrew Van Ginkel, and NT Alex Williams The Falcons defense was solid against a good Buc’s offense. The Vikings Offense was pretty suspect ranking 25th in EPA at the Bears. I think the Falcons keep this one close. Grab the points.

Prediction:

This is probably the best game of the weekend if you don’t count the slug-fest in the SEC. Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King will be back at the helm for this after taking last week off to get some rest. Look, I have been hyping up this game since June. I think that Georgia Tech might be the better team. This day and age in college football, large adjustments can be made due to the massive amount of kids that enter the transfer portal. Both of these teams return a lot of production, but Georgia Tech is the team that has past the road test. In week one, the Yellow Jackets spotted Colorado 7 points and three turnovers and still covered the game winning on the road by margin. Clemson on the other hand should have lost by more to LSU, and had a terrible start against Troy. There are two glaring problems with the Tigers. (A), they can’t move the ball. This team is dead even in yards per play and that is on an easy schedule. The other issue (B), is that Clemson can’t stop the run ranking 51st in opponent rushing EPA. I know that Haynes King missed last week against a cupcake school. I am ok that with that as it was precautionary. I wish that Clemson looked better last week as we would have gotten a better line, but the value still remains on the home dog.

Georgia Tech +3 – 2 stars

FAU vs FIU -2.5 O/U 58.5

This is an under the radar game that I bet this week. Don’t get me wrong, both of these teams are trash. It’s not the side that I am looking at. Florida Atlantic is may have a pretty bad defense, but this team also moves the ball quite fast. Over the last two games, the Owls rank 1st in tempo at 20.87 second in between plays. This causes a lot of possessions and a heck of a lot of scoring. On the other hand, FIU was playing at a snail’s pace in 2024. For this season, new coach Willie Simmons has picked up the pace. Simmons was the running game coordinator at Duke before taking the FIU job. Before that he was an FCS coach at Florida A&M. I expect a faster pace as Duke ranked 28th in pace. Last season, the Owls gave up 30.8 points per game. FIU only returned one defensive starter from 2024. I think this game screams over the total for me.
