Appalachian State vs North Carolina -4 and ML

Return of the Mack.   Well it was for the first two games.  Now it is going to be fade on the Mack.   Mack Brown did very well winning his first 2 games but we have to remember that he has a true freshman QB in Sam Howell and they were out-gained against Miami and benefited from playing an injured South Carolina team.   Now they get to face a top 3 Group of 5 team in Appalachian State who returns 74% production and outgained opponents last year by 2 yards per play.  They also have a very experienced QB in Zach Thomas who will be itching to show off some of his skills.  Mack Brown hasn’t even gotten to his own recruits yet being that it is his first year and there is way too much hype on this team.   They also have Clemson on deck and may be looking ahead to them.   There is value on the Mountaineers for not blowing out a much improved Charlotte team.   This is an opportunity for them to make a statement against one of their 2 only power 5 opponents.    I have App State winning this game outright by 2 points and I also have the money line here.

Appalachian State +4 for 3 stars and ML up to a star

Western Michigan vs Syracuse -5.5  O/U 65.5 –

Last year this game went to 97 and both teams play very fast.   Western Michigan lost 55-42 and since they return 90% production, they all remember this game very well.   After 3 games the Broncos are averaging 7.9 yards per play and that is counting their Michigan State match up.   They give up 5.8 yards per play which won’t keep opponents out of the game.   Syracuse on  the other hand had a tough start to the season losing to Maryland allowing 63 points and Clemson allowing 41 points.   The Orange really need a big bounce back here to save face.   Every Syracuse game was a blow out and they still average 78 plays per game.   They were second in the league at 84 last year.   Western Michigan was at 76 plays per game last year in the slow playing Mac and they also were involved in blow outs this year.   I think this game will be high flying just like last year and 65.5 points seems way too low.   Take the over

Over 65.5 – 3 star premium shared

Temple vs Buffalo +14

Remember when I said that I like to bet over-reactions?   Well this is definitely spot to find one.   Temple beat Maryland last week so they are a little high on their horses.  Temple returned good production and Buffalo ranked one of the last but we can’t forget that the Owls are with a new coach named Rod Carey who previously coached the NIU Huskies who NEVER tried to blow anybody out of the water.    I have to give Buffalo a pass for last game against Liberty because they had 2 road games in a row and ended up blowing the Penn State game after out-gaining them.    Buffalo was only out-gained 25 yards in the Liberty loss and the score was a bit misleading as well.  Lance Leopold is too good of a coach and they should fix their efficiency problem and they have a shot to do it at home here.  This is a let down spot for Temple as mention before but also a foot long meat lovers grand slam sandwich spot for next week with Temple facing their OLD COACH GEOFF COLLINS at Georgia Tech.   We have a live dog here.

Buffalo +14 – 2 star premium shared plus sprinkle the ML around 1/3 unit

NFL Week 2 Plays

Philadelphia vs Atlanta +1 – O/U 51

This high NFL over under really tells it all here.   At least one of these teams is going to score some points here and you can count Philadelphia as the at least.   This Eagles team is poised this year and looking to get back to the superbowl.   Carson Wentz carved up a Redskins defense that was full of stars like Landon Collins and Josh Norman.   Now that he is facing a very inferior Falcons defense in a dome, I expect much of the same.   The eagles were in a super bowl hangover last year and were very injured yet still made it to the second round in the playoffs.   Wentz looks motivated here and wants to win a Superbowl.  Philadelphia has the best offensive line in football and will pound it down Atlanta’s throats like we saw the Vikings do last week.  I like this short number you are getting and the Eagles should win by 3.

LA Chargers vs Detroit Lions +2.5  O/U 48

So this is a very interesting line here.   +2.5 usually says the home dog is the correct side.  Due to this and how bad Detroit looked the last game and in preseason, I really cannot pick a side.  The Chargers are actually the best ATS road team since last year.   I do like the total in this game and here is why.   Last Week Marlon Mack tore this Chargers defense up but they were without starting LB Jatavious Brown.  He is questionable this week.   The Lions do not have a lot of pass catchers but they do have a good running game with Kerryon Johnson and will utilize it here being that it looks like the Chargers weakness.  Last year, the Chargers defense only gave up 20 points per game last year and the Lions offense only scored 20.   The Lions are coming off of a heartbreaking tie in overtime while the Chargers are coming off of a close win in overtime.   Interesting that 2 teams are playing each other that both had overtimes but I have to imagine that it can’t be good for offense.    The under is 5-0 the Lions last 5 games that they were a home dog.  Since 2012, the under is 10-3 for the Chargers as a road favorite.  Gotta take the high under of 48.

Under 48 – 2 star

Quick Cap:

Cardinals vs Ravens over 46.5 – 1.5 star – The Cardinals play fast under Kingsbury and should be able to throw some wrinkles into their matchup against he Ravens.   I like how Kyler Murray knows how to come back in a game.   The Ravens had the fastest pace in the NFL last year at 70 plays per game.

Over 46.5 – 1.5 star

Teaser – New York Giants to +7.5 and the San Francisco 49ers to +7.5

Northern Illinois vs Nebraska -14 O/U 54.5

There may not be a better time to take Nebraska than this week.   This team similar to the Cleveland Browns in the NFL came in way over-hyped.  Now that they struggled against Southern Alabama and blew that game vs Colorado I think they are very under rated here.  NIU here is playing with a new coach and a new system.   They jumped Utah last game and still lost 35-17 being out gained by more than 100 yards.   Nebraska was up 17-0 at Colorado before they choked that game away.  This was a mental thing more than a talent discrepancy.   I see the Hustkers bouncing back huge this game and I have them beating the Huskies by 20.

Nebraska – 14 – 2 star play
