Finding Value in the Big West

Well as the headline reads, and what everyone expects from this non power five conference, the Big West is not just another mid-major of the Division I landscape that we call college basketball. The Big West is a special conference that has its own stand out stars, its amazing finishes and even upsetting wins of major conference teams.  The Big West Conference consists of 9 teams based mostly in California with the exception of the University of Hawaii.  The other 8 California teams consist of Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Long Beach State, University California Davis, University California Irvine, University California Riverside, and University California Santa Barbara.  As the season progresses, finding value in this league will be a unique skill compared to the other mid-major conferences.   Here are my picks for the BIG WEST standings at the end of the year:

  1. Cal State Fullerton
  2. University California Irvine
  3. Long Beach State
  4. University of Hawaii
  5. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
  6. University California Santa Barbara
  7. University California Davis
  8. Cal State Northridge
  9. University California Riverside

Veterans Day NBA free play

Happy Veteran’s day, we’d like to say thank you to all our veterans and active military here at The Oddsbreakers. We were able to bring home 4 units last night with our 2 free plays Hawks +11.5 (1 unit) & Under 238 (3 units). So lets keep this rolling into a fresh week. Lets turn our focus to DC, where the Wizards host the Magic as they face off for the 2nd time in 3 days. Both teams played this weekend after their matchup Friday. The line is Wizards -7.5, and I think this is mostly because of them having sunday off while the Magic were playing in Madison Square garden. I like the Magic and the points, Steve Clifford in his 1st year as the Magic coach has got this team playing well after a slow start. Clifford is very familiar with this division as he served as the Charlotte Hornets HC the last 5 seasons. Friday night the Magic jumped out to an early lead and never looked back winning by 9 Friday night, and although they will have no rest and back-to-back road games, I really like them to cover the number. Wizards are 2-6 on 1 day rest and 1-3 as a home favorite. Clifford has been in the divison for over 10 years now and has the gameplan and team to get the W. Wizards have struggled offensively where it matters 18th in FT % and 28th in Offensive rating and True shooting %. 7.5 is too much to cover although I think they probably come away with the Victory.

Sunday 11/11/2018 NBA free play

Sunday night the Hawks start their 4 game road trip in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, they come in on a 3 game losing skid. The Lakers have seemed to figure things out winning 4 of their last 5 after starting 2-5, that includes last nights 101-86 victory in Sacramento. The lines for tonight are Lakers -11.5 o/u 238. Although the Lakers look better every night, I dont think they can cover the number here. Typically teams play their best in their first road game of a trip, I think ATL will have a lot of energy and effort on both ends of the floor. Lakers will have a real possibility of coming out flat, they played in Sacramento last night and tonight will be their 5th game in 8 days. The Lakers are 0-4 ATS as a home favorite so far and I don’t see a number like 11.5 being the 1st one they cover. I also really like the under here, ATL and LA are both fast paced teams (1st, 3rd in NBA) couple that with two of the lower rated defenses (29th, 28th) I believe thats why were seeing a number like 241 be the opening number. But the Lakers are on no days rest and ATL will be playing a little later than usual so I look for a slow start from both offensively. Trae young averaging 18.4 points a game will be the key to ATL covering and possibly winning, if they can get some production from Jeremy Lin this will be an easy cover. I like the under as a better play, but I also like ATL +11.5

Survivor Pool Week 10 Tito’s Take

Things are going to get interesting in week 10 for sure. There are some interesting lines on the board that we could select from however a lot of these teams we have used to get us to this moment. So far since we started this series in week 5 we have used the Patriots, Vikings, Rams, Steelers, and the Chiefs all top teams in there respected conferences.

This weeks top options

Philadelphia Eagles vs the Cowboys

Packers vs the Dolphins

Saints vs the Bengals

The Eagles

The Birds are soaring as of late and I expect that to continue. They rushed Wentz back and he looked rusty at first but has looked better week after week. The Eagles front 7 on D is very talented and should be able to contain Zeke. That will force Dak to throw the ball and for some reason the Eagles secondary plays much better at home. I also like that the Eagles are coming off the bye and the Cowboys played on Monday Night.

The Packers.

The Packers are currently 3-4-1. If that record does not scream Packers need a win I’m not sure what does. The Packers will roll in this game. The Packers know every game is a must win with the Bears and Vikings ahead of them. On the other side of the coin the Dolphins haven’t looked great lately struggling to put up points Brock will start under center for the Dolphins and I expect him to throw a pick or 2 in this game.

The Saints

The Saints are coming off a huge win last week against the Rams. I expect this to be a tough spot for the Saints as they are riding high off a huge win. The Bengals are without AJ Green which makes me think the defense of the Bengals knows they need to step up even more. I would avoid the Saints this week. I do think they get it down but a let down could be in order from Andy Dalton.

Friday Free pick

TGIF, lets get some money this weekend! NBA Totals have been pretty good to us on the free play write ups. We’re going to try and keep that momentum going, today we focus on the Charlotte Hornets traveling to Philadelphia to take on the Sixers. The total is sitting at 225.5 and I love the under, these two teams are primed for a hard fought defensive battle and I was looking for a total around 212. Sixers carry a perfect home record and will look to keep that going, our biggest concern will be overtime. The Hornets are much more efficient but their pace is in the bottom half of the league. Both these teams are stronger defensively than offense and know each other well. 115-110 games arent typically the types of games these teams play and I don’t see it tonight. I predict a 104-98 type score and we should feel comfortable with this play from start to finish.

Free play of the day: Under 225.5
