*CFB(1u): Florida/Vanderbilt OVER 57–Saturday 11 AM CT

Vanderbilt picked up a huge win at Kentucky last week, and it was anything but a fluke. The Commodores out-gained the Wildcats by over 100 yards and ran for 264 yards. With QB Mike Wright at the helm, this is an extremely dangerous rushing attack; Wright averages over 8 YPC on the ground and RB Re’Mahn Davis has recorded back-to-back 100 yard games. Florida’s defense completely stuffed South Carolina last week(we were on the Gators), but I think that has a lot more to say about the incompetence of the Gamecocks offense. This is the same Florida defense that allowed 400+ yards to South Florida, 528 yards to LSU, and even allowed 24 first half points to Texas A&M and backup QB Haynes King. I don’t like how Florida’s issues stopping the run matchup with Vanderbilt; I think the Commodores can get into the mid-to-upper 20’s here.

The reason I can’t bet Vanderbilt +14 is because I have zero trust in their defense to get stops against any offense with a pulse. They’ve allowed 50 or more on 3 separate occasions in SEC play, and this is another very tough matchup. Don’t look now, but this Florida offense has really rounded into form; they put up 41 in College Station a few weeks ago and backed it up with a 38 point performance last week. I think that’s sustainable due to their stout OL and explosiveness out of the backfield. Anthony Richardson is not the most consistent passer in the world, but this is still a Gators offense that ranks 27th in yards/play.

I see this as a 38-27 type of game with potential for explosive plays on both sides. I do think Vanderbilt covers, but the much better way to play this game is the Over.

*CFB(1u): Pittsburgh -7 vs Duke–Saturday 11 AM CT

Give Duke credit for carrying a 7-3 record into this point of the season, but I’m not really sold on the Blue Devils. Their best win is on the road against 5-5 Miami, a game in which the Hurricanes turned the ball over 8 times and Duke gained just 336 total yards. Additionally, Duke has a loss at Georgia Tech on their resume. While Duke has held up pretty well against the run, I still believe their secondary is very vulnerable. Pitt QB Kedon Slovis is far from a world beater(7.6 Y/A), but with the way Pitt is able to consistently establish the run, I think this is a matchup where he will be able to create explosive plays in the vertical passing game.

What ultimately gets me on Pitt is the way I think their defense will be able to take over this game. In recent weeks, Pitt has finally lived up to the bill and developed into one of the most lethal pass rushing teams in America. With what we knew they had in their Back 7, I believe this to be a Top 15 defense in America. Duke doesn’t have one glaring weakness offensively, but they don’t have to talent to be able to step up in this type of matchup. QB Riley Leonard has regressed as a passer throughout the season after a hot start(7.6 Y/A), and I don’t see Duke creating much explosion on the ground.

Laying this many points with Pat Narduzzi can be tough given his conservative nature, but in this particular matchup, I do see Pitt coming out with a balanced attack offensively. I see this as a double-digit win for Pitt. I also really wanted to be on this Under, but seeing it be bet down 5 points from open takes away all the value there.

Full NBA Premiums, 11.18

Nice 3-0 night in the NBA Thursday, we need more of that. Onto TGIF and the weekend. And thank GOD it’s here, am I right?

NBA Premiums (52-42-1, 55%, +7.03 units):

76ers -1.5 (-110), to win 1.5 units
This line isn’t out everyone but I would take it up to -4. This is an astoundingly good spot for the 76ers. They’ll be coming off 2 straight wins, this is a revenge game, and Philly is off FIVE DAYS OF REST. That simply doesn’t happen in the NBA. Sure they may be slow to groove at first, but eventually the rest and time to prepare will make a difference. The Bucks are very hurt and they played spectacular basketball against the Cavs. It was all innovative, good defense and more dominance from Giannis in big spots. I love it, but against experienced teams it won’t be that easy. Embiid is playing some of his best basketball right now and it’s likely Maxey will be out. All Philly for me.

Grizzlies 1H -3 (-110), to win 1 unit
OKC/Grizzlies 1H over 118.5 (-110), to win 1 unit
The Grizzlies and Thunder are among the best 1st half teams on offense and the Thunder are one of the fastest teams in the NBA lately. What they’re not– very interested in defense, especially early in games. The Thunder should act as a pace-catalyst for the Grizzlies, who love to show out on their home floor. Love the Grizzlies to capitalize with Jaren Jackson back and off a tough loss against an OKC team that shouldn’t be able to stop their production in Memphis.
Bulls -9 (-110), to win 1 unit
This is what the Bulls do- they beat up on bad teams. It’s the first game of a long road trip for the Magic and the Bulls are healthier than ever. The Magic should still be without Paulo Banchero, too, who just announced he has to let his ankle rank even more. Against one a bottom tier offense, the shaky Chicago offense can shine. They still have way more talent. Hate betting on the Bulls but, go Bulls!
Suns/Jazz over 227 (-110), to win 1.5 units
The Suns are moving at a fast pace and even though their defense is elite, the Jazz are a juggernaut at home in all but their last game (the one we bet on) against the Knicks. Now that they’re settled, I expect their facilitative offense to get back to it’s true form and set the pace from the jump, Suns chasing or perhaps out-pacing the Jazz, whatever, I think this goes over. I have it at 235.
Lakers 1H -4 (-105), to win 1.5 units
This line is tepid because Lebron James and Anthony Davis could be out but I think at least one of them will play. AD is listed as probable, Lebron is questionable, but Lebron also knows this is a great chance for the Lakers to gain some confidence. The Pistons are off a tough-fought loss to the Clippers last night in LA. On a back to back, they’ll face a Lakers team off FIVE DAYS OF REST, just like Philly up above. Idc if only half the Lakers lineup plays, this is as good a spot and they’ll see all season. The Lakers must win this and they should by margin if they have any merit whatsoever. I think they start off red-hot in the first half; I trust that more than the full game.
NBA Friday Parlay (6 Team Moneyline, 0.5 units to win 2.14 units):
Cavs + Grizzlies + Bulls + Mavericks + Warriors + Lakers
This is a rare day with a lot of home favorites in a great position to at least win straight up, if not cover. Let’s take advantage!

Week 12 CFB Best Bets

I took a step back in Week 11 after a 6-2 Week 10. I’ve locked in 4 early best bets here for the Week 12 slate and will be back with another wave of plays by tomorrow morning. Let’s make it a great weekend!

*CFB(1u): Iowa/Minnesota UNDER 32.5–Saturday 3 PM CT

If Minnesota QB Tanner Morgan were healthy, I’d probably lay the points with the Gophers here. However, the senior has sustained multiple concussions this year and is likely to be held out for the rest of the season. He leaves the reins to true freshman Athan Kaliakmanis; while the youngster might have the higher upside, he has completed less than 50% of his passes on the year and holds a 1:3 TD-INT ratio. Minnesota’s identity is within their ground game, and given the confidence they’ll have in their defense, I expect PJ Fleck to take a very risk averse approach and keep his young QB from beating himself against one of the best secondaries in CFB. Even with the ground heavy attack, I don’t expect many chunk runs from the Gophers going up against a very stout Iowa run defense.

Fleck will be content with this approach because he knows Iowa’s offense has nothing in their arsenal to beat them. We all know Spencer Petras is a very poor QB, but what’s not as widely known is the fact that Iowa’s OL is very poor. Aside from the Purdue and Northwestern games, the Hawkeyes have been stuffed in the run game, and Petras has been sacked 3+ times on six separate occasions this year. Like Iowa, Minnesota boasts a Top 5 defense in the country that limits explosion both on the ground and over the top in the passing game. Please don’t fall for the trap that Iowa’s offense has improved; they gained just 146 yards against Wisconsin last week.

This number might be low, but it’s not low enough. I see this as a 13-9 type of game with very little chance of either team surpassing 17 points. This will be a slow paced game where defense takes center stage; Under is the play.

*CFB(1u): Arkansas +2.5 vs Ole Miss–Saturday 6:30 PM CT

As we saw last week, Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson is one of the most valuable players to a team in CFB this year. Arkansas is averaging 37 PPG with Jefferson leading the way and just 15 PPG when he’s out of the lineup(shoutout @BuzzJohnNabors on Twitter for that nugget). Thankfully, he’s taken all the reps at practice this week and will play on Saturday night; that’s more than enough for me to be on the Hogs here.

I really don’t like this spot for Ole Miss; they are on the heels of a gut-wrenching loss to Alabama and have the Egg Bowl looming this coming Thursday. Specifically, Ole Miss’ defense has started to slip as the schedule has strengthened. Auburn ran for 300 yards on this unit, LSU put up 500 total yards, and hell, even Texas A&M put up 480 yards with a true freshman QB making his first career start. Arkansas’ run game is very good; Rocket Sanders is over 6 YPC this season, and Jefferson being back in the lineup only helps his chances to break off chunk runs. Jefferson is mobile and brings balance to this offense, but I also think he’s one of the most underrated passers in the country. He’s averaging over 9 Y/A through the air over the past 2 seasons and boasts a glorious 38:6 TD/INT ratio over that span.

The one thing you have to love about Ole Miss is the way they run the ball. Quinshon Judkins is over 5.5 YPC as a freshman, and QB Jaxson Dart has unexpectedly been a big part of the Rebels ground attack as well. On paper, this is a matchup the Rebels can exploit given Arkansas’ mediocrity defending the run. With that said, sooner or later, this game will fall on the arm of QB Jaxson Dart. Dart’s overall numbers are misleading given how many weaklings Ole Miss played earlier in the season; in SEC play, he is throwing for less than 7.5 Y/A. Arkansas’ pass defense is certainly not great, but the one aspect of this ‘Hogs defense I really like is the pass rush; they recorded 7 sacks against LSU last week. Ole Miss’ OL has started to slip as the competition has ramped up, and I don’t think the Rebels have the skill talent on the outside to be able to pick up their young QB in the passing game.

I don’t think the Over is a bad look either given each team likes to run with pace and these are two balanced offenses that can create explosion in multiple ways. My one hesitation is that, if Arkansas is to jump out to an early lead, they could force Ole Miss to abandon the run game and ride with the weaker aspect of their offense. Rather than worry about that, I’m going to trust Arkansas as the short home ‘dog.

*CFB(1u): Oklahoma State/Oklahoma OVER 66–Saturday 6:30 PM CT

Oklahoma threw up a clunker in Morgantown last week, but we’ve seen them respond well in this spot. The week after they got shut out against Texas, they put up 52 on Kansas. After scoring just 27 at Iowa State, they put up 35 on a solid Baylor defense the next week. This is a spot where I think the Sooners can get into the 40’s.

The Sooners feature an incredibly balanced attack and run at a maniacally fast pace with Jeff Lebby at the helm. QB Dillon Gabriel has yet to put it all together this year, yet he has still thrown for 8.5 Y/A and boasts a 4:1 TD/INT ratio. Oklahoma State’s secondary is very mediocre, and they’ve also really started to struggle against the run; Deuce Vaughn(KST) and Devin Neal(KU) both ran for 7+ YPC against the Cowboys. Oklahoma RB Eric Gray has been one of the hidden gems in CFB this year, already surpassing 1100 yards on the ground at over 6.5 YPC. Oklahoma should also be able to win up front, meaning there’s not one aspect of this matchup I like for Oklahoma State’s defense.

I’ve been Oklahoma State QB Spencer Sanders’ biggest critic; he has still yet to surpass 7 Y/A against a Power 5 opponent this season. With that said, you don’t need a lethal passing attack to beat this Oklahoma defense. Baylor’s Blake Shapen threw for less than 6 Y/A against the Sooners in Norman, yet the Bears rode the coattails of the run game to put up 38 points in the win. The Sooners’ secondary has improved in recent weeks(under 6 Y/A each of the past 3 games), but this is a matchup where nuance comes into play. Sanders is a 4th year starter who’s mobile, and Mike Gundy is one of the most tenured HC’s in CFB. We might not have seen the Cowboys put it all together this year, and the run game must undoubtedly improve. However, the lack of difference-making talent on the Sooners defense has me thinking the Pokes can get into the 30’s here.

We already talked about Oklahoma’s pace, but Oklahoma State has run at an equally fast pace when Sanders is running the show. I see this as a 42-31 type of game with potential to go higher given my lack of trust in each defense.

*CFB(1u): UCLA +2.5 vs USC–Saturday 7 PM CT

Caleb Williams has gotten most of the notoriety for USC’s success this year, but in my opinion, the most invaluable piece to USC’s offense has been RB Travis Dye. The Oregon transfer ran for over 6 YPC this year but is now lost for the year after sustaining a gruesome leg injury last week. Austin Jones has looked great this year vs inferior competition, but he averaged just 4 YPC from 2020-2021 on 233 carries at Stanford. I think this is a significant downgrade for USC that not enough people will give credence to.

I don’t want to understate how good Caleb Williams has been for USC; 31 TD vs 2 INT is remarkable. However, I think UCLA’s offense can go toe-to-toe with USC. QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson is a 5th year starter that is far more efficient than Williams(71% completion) and averages 5.5 YPC as a runner. Additionally, UCLA has arguably the best RB in the country in Zack Charbonnet; the Michigan transfer has run for 7.5 YPC and 1145 yards on the season. USC’s defense is pretty mediocre across the board in my opinion. You won’t see it against teams like Washington State, Stanford, and Colorado, but they also have allowed 35+ to Utah, Arizona, and even CALIFORNIA in recent weeks. I think UCLA’s offense has their way here. UCLA’s defense is similarly mediocre, but the one thing they do pretty well is limit explosion on the ground. With Dye out, I think that becomes even more true.

You also have to remember that USC is still led by 1st year HC Lincoln Riley, while Chip Kelly has been building up to this breakout year for 5 years at UCLA. The Bruins have a ton of multiplicity offensively, while Caleb Williams will have to shoulder the majority of the load for USC to pull this off. I don’t like the dynamics of this matchup for the Trojans; I think UCLA wins outright.

NBA Premiums 11.17, Modified

The Kings 1H line didn’t come out as planned so we’ll make our modifications below. Someone in the market must be reading our emails…
Nets/Blazers under 220 (-110), to win 1.5 units
The Nets will be extremely happy to face Portland just because of their pace. The Kings went up and down the floor and blitzed Brooklyn at every turn with their explosive offense. Portland may win but they don’t play that way. Portland is 29th and the Nets are 28th overall in pace over the last 2 weeks. The Blazers’ defense has been elite all season and the Nets were #1 in defensive efficiency in November before they faced the Kings. This checks out as a game where the Nets’ defense will look to get-right and the Blazers, in their second game at home, will look more like their stingy selves. Love the under.
Kings TT over 122.5 (-110), to win 1.5 units
Spurs/Kings 1H over 119.5 or less (-110), to win 1 unit
Parlay: Kings 1Q ML and 1Q Over 61 (1 unit to win 1.94 units)
The Kings are looking EXPLOSIVE. They’re #1 in offensive efficiency over their last 4 games. Only the Celtics, who have been insanely productive, have eclipsed the Kings’ scoring ability in the short-term. And now two teams, both of which don’t give a shit about playing defense, will face each other and catalyze the other. The Spurs’ defense has somewhat improved over the last 5 games but not enough to stymie the Kings. What Sacramento did to Brooklyn on Tuesday was wild to watch and they’ll plan on doing the exact same thing against a defense that ranks 29th overall this season. Like the first half over and another big output by the Kings. Avoiding the full game total in case a blowout shortens the score. Firstly, same-game parlays count towards our unit count and ATS score so LFG! Love this parlay. The game will start off fast-paced and high scoring as it typically does when the Kings play and the Spurs, like most teams, will probably be shell shocked. Tre Jones is back for San Antonio and he’s a great facilitator for their offense. They’ll chase while the Kings should be able to score at will.
Sabonis over 18.5 points (-115), to win 1 unit
Sabonis should be able to dominate Jakob Poetl in the paint, a player who’s offensively gifted but won’t be able to out-muscle or out-skill Sabonis when he’s trying to score. Remember, props don’t count towards our overall units

The Warriors are KILLING ME. Plus unit night either way, onto the next:

Course/ Tournament History:

The RSM Classic, previously known as the McGladrey Classic until 2015, has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour since its debut in 2010. In 2015, the tournament also switched to the dual course setup utilizing both the Seaside and Plantation Courses at Sea Island. Between 2015 and 2019 this was the final PGA Tour event on the calendar year but was switched to the fall there after. This year will also feature it’s largest purse of $8.1 Million an increase from the 2021 purse of $7.2 Million.

This event has also been dominated by Americans, winning every year except for 2016 when Mackenzie Hughes defeated four others in a playoff.

72-Hole Record: 260, Kevin Kisner (2015), Talor Gooch (2021)

18-Hole Record: 60, Tommy Gainey (4th Rd, 2012), Sebastian Munoz (1st Rd, 2021), Tyler McCumber (4th Rd, 2021)

Course Guide/ Scorecards:

  • Plantation Course: Thursday or Friday Round

Players this week will only see the Plantation course once this week, either on Thursday or Friday so I’m not all too concerned about this course. The Plantation Course is also not equipped with Shot Link data which limits are SG research. This course is more of Parkland style that features tree lined fairways and water coming into play on a majority of the holes. The Plantation Course features four Par 5’s, unlike Seaside, that provide additional scoring opportunities. While distance and power haven’t really been a factor in the recent tournaments here, it will play a factor on those four holes. Davis Love III recently renovated this course changing the contouring on the greens making them more difficult.

  • Seaside Course: Thursday or Friday Round, Saturday and Sunday Rounds

The Seaside course is the less challenging of the two courses that players will face this week. As you can tell by the scorecard, the course is one of the shortest on the PGA Tour. Most courses on Tour use length to try and prevent the event from becoming a “birdie fest” however, Seaside relies on the wind as it’s main defense. Seaside is a coastal/links style golf course that features wide fairways and greens. The tournament is won on approach shots and putting. Most of the greens are elevated with large runoff areas which emphasizes Greens in Regulation % as a key stat this week. The bermudagrass putting surface will also provide some challenge for players who aren’t particularly used to the grainy surface. Capitalizing on birdie opportunities will be placed at a premium this week based on the previous winners scores.

The Field/ Odds:

156 Players will compete in the RSM Classic this week. It’s an extremely weak field especially after Tony Finau withdrew on Tuesday.

  • Brian Harman (+1800), is coming off a 2nd place finish at the WWT Championship. In the two other events he’s played this season he’s finished T23 and T15. His best finish at the RSM Classic was back in 2017 when he finished T4.
  • Seamus Power (+2200), has been in great form as of late winning the Butterfield Bermuda Championship and finishing T3 at the WWT Championship. He’s played in this event five times before and missed the cut in three of those appearances. However, last year he finished T4 here.
  • Jason Day (+2200), has revitalized his game finishing inside the top 20 in four of his five starts this season. He’s played here three times with his best finish coming in 2020. Last year at Sea Island Resort he missed the cut.
  • Tom Hoge (+2200), missed the cut at the WWT Championship in his last start. However, in the four other events he’s played in this season he’s finished T12/ T4/ T9/ T13.
  • Taylor Montgomery (+2500), will make his tournament debut this week. In his first five starts of the season he’s finished 3/ T9/ T15/ T13/ T10/ 57.

  • Previous Winners in the field: Robert Streb (’14,’20), Tyler Duncan (’19) Austin Cook (’17), Mackenzie Hughes (’16), Kevin Kisner (’15), Chris Kirk (’13), Tommy Gainey (’12)

Donkeys for Courses:

“Horses for Courses” is a phrase that is widely used and describes the best course/tournament fits. These are the players that have had success at the particular course/event. “Donkeys for Courses” is something I came up with that highlights the players who have struggled at a particular course/tournament.

NFL Week 10 Misleading Final Scores

The Bears out-gained the Lions 408 to 323 yet lost 31-30.  A 1-0 turnover ratio pick 6 killed them.

The Texans out-gained the Giants 387 to 367 yet lost 24-16.  A 2-0 red zone turnover ratio killed them.  Giants also had 1 huge explosive play.

The Cowboys out-gained the Packers 421 to 415 yet lost 31-28. Equal 2-2 turnovers but 9 penalties and bad play calling got them.

The 49ers out-gained the Chargers 387 to 238 yet only won 22-16 at home.  Equal 1-1 turnovers but bad red zone efficiency hurt the 49ers.
