Premiums, 6.9

Nice day! 3-1 in the NBA for nearly +2 units and our Dodgers play (1.5 units) hit, too! Let’s keep rollin’! Approaching MLB lightly today, and I’m going to be VERY cautious about Game 4 of the NBA Finals. With Curry a little banged up, this entire series just changed.

NBA Finals, Game 4:
Under 214.5, 2 units
The pace was ridiculous in game three and there’s just no way, IMO, that it can keep up. Game four should be extremely contentious and physical, especially after Draymond’s exit and how horrendous the Warriors protected the rim. As usual, they’ll correct some of those wrongs and this game will probably be a lot closer, with one asterisk. If Curry is substantially injured*, as I noted on Twitter, this series is absolutely over. As even as these two teams are, Curry is so integral for Golden State’s offensive success and they just won’t be able to produce the same results without a Steph Curry that’s at least 90%. Because of his injury and due to our expectation that pace and offensive production will decrease, this feels like a sure-fire over. I have it at 201.
MLB Picks:
Giants and Yankees -1.5 (-125 each), 1.25 units each to win 1 unit each (not a parlay)
We trust in Gerrit Cole (why wouldn’t we at this point), who’s been on a tear, and Logan Webb has the goods to dominate the Rockies on the road. The Yankees are also in a revenge spot now, rut row.
Angels (-126), 1 unit
If there’s any spot for the Angels to break their long, horrendous losing streak, it’s Ohtani on the mound. He’s been on a downward trend for awhile now, along with his entire team, but great players answer the call and LAA certainly has the ability to annihilate Boston if they’re getting a great effort from Ohtani, at home.
NHL Picks:
Lightning/Rangers over 5.5, 1 unit
Both teams had defenses step up, both teams will need to be aggressive from the jump to try and get the crucial 5th game in this series. Normally this could be a good spot for an under but the way this series and playoff hockey has gone, I’m taking the over.

June 8th MLB Plays

I have not enjoyed the start to the week I was looking for, but I still remain +11.96u over the last 30 days. I’m rolling with 3 plays for tonight looking to get back on track. To receive a text when I release/add any plays, join my Telegram group!

*MLB(1u): Red Sox TT OVER 4.5(-120) @ Angels–8:38 PM CT

Angels SP Reid Detmers became popular after throwing a no-hitter earlier this season, but I think that one-off performance greatly clouds what has been an otherwise poor start to his major league career. Detmers is striking out just 6.2 batters per 9 innings and also allowing 1.4 HR/9, which leads to a FIP(expected ERA) near 5.00. The Red Sox started off the season slow, but since May 1st, this has been the best offense in the league against left-handed pitching by a fairly wide margin. The Sox racked up 15 hits in last night’s game and will be aided by another comfortable wind blowing out towards RCF tonight. The Angels bullpen enjoyed a strong start to the season but have really regressed over the past 2 weeks; they deserve a sizable share of the blame for the Angels’ current 12 game losing streak. The Red Sox have shown enough consistency(and excellence) at the plate over the past month for me to trust them against a very vulnerable Angels staff. 4.5 is a standard TT, and -120 is a very fair price.

*MLB(1u): Giants TT OVER 4.5(-135) vs Rockies–8:45 PM CT

The Giants are not in great current form at the moment, in large part due to the fact that they are still without Brandon Belt and LaMonte Wade. With all of that said, I think their offense will absolutely erupt in this game. Why is that? Rockies SP Antonio Senzatela very well may be the worst pitcher in the league and has continually struggled against this lineup. Senzatela holds an ugly 1.97 WHIP on the season and is allowing over 15 hits per 9 innings on the season. Earlier this season, he allowed 5 runs in 3.2 IP against this Giants lineup in San Francisco and has traditionally been worse on the road throughout his career. Even amidst this pedestrian stretch, the Giants put up 8 runs on Friday against a similar type of arm in Marlins SP Elieser Hernandez. The Rockies bullpen(29th in bullpen WHIP) should be no help tonight, especially considering they have fared much worse on the road as a unit. As a bonus, the wind will be blowing out 17 mph towards the bay in RF tonight; these conditions made the Giants one of the best offenses in the league last year vs right-handed pitching. There’s obviously some juice on this play, but this matchup more than warrants it. There’s no reason this number should be at 4.5.

*MLB(0.71u): Guardians -1.5(+140) vs Rangers–6:10 PM CT

I had concerns earlier this year about Guardians SP Shane Bieber after seeing his velocity and strikeout numbers down. However, he has returned to his peak form over his last 4 starts, going at least 6 innings and allowing no more than 2 runs in each start. He also holds a pair of 10+ strikeout games in that stretch. Tonight, he’ll face a Rangers lineup that ranks just 26th in OPS vs right-handed pitching and holds very pedestrian numbers in the month of June. With the wind blowing in as a bonus, I think Bieber deals another gem in this one. I like Rangers SP Dane Dunning when he’s at home, but his road numbers are too hard to ignore. Dunning held a 6.39 ERA and 1.68 WHIP on the road last season and holds that same 1.68 WHIP through 5 road starts this season. While the Guardians are a very mediocre offense, lesser offenses have crushed Dunning in this role over the last 2 years. There is also a major bullpen discrepancy in this matchup; the Guardians rank 1st in the league in bullpen WHIP, while I consider the Rangers ‘pen a CLEAR bottom 5-10 unit in the league. My concerns about the Guardians offense keeps this a smaller play, but +140 was way too good to pass up considering how many key matchups I value point in Cleveland’s direction tonight.

Premiums, 6.8

Ehhhhh! A nice winning day in MLB, although a big middle finger to the Giants for blowing their lead against a road-team Rockies unit, gross.

The NBA Finals are here! Added a few more plays, too (designated by the *)
NBA Finals, Game 3:
Celtics 1Q -1, 1.5 units
Celtics 1H -2.5, 1 unit *
Celtics/Warriors 3rd QTR over 52.5, 1 unit *
Full Game under 212.5, 1.5 units
Much like the response we expected from Golden State, we expect the same aggression and retribution from Boston on Wednesday. Boston is back home at the TD Garden Arena and they’re well-aware that Golden State needs to win one of those road games to take the series back and have the home-court-advantage. The Celtics cannot allow the Warriors to penetrate the paint as often as they did in game two, and supporting cast members like Horford, Smart, and Grant Williams should have more productive games. I think the Celtics get off to a quick start and force Golden State to play from behind early, but watch out for that infamous 3rd quarter turn – wouldn’t be a bad idea to play on Golden State if that live line gets inflated.
As far as the total goes, at least one of these defenses will assert themselves in these contests and in all likelihood, both will win more than they’ll lose as this series drags on. Bodies are hurt (Tatum’s shoulder for example), players are battling and taking hard fouls, and getting into the paint will become more and more challenging. The pace dropped significantly at key moments in game two, partially because of the Warriors’ big lead, and even with a slew of turnovers we saw a total score that fell well-below the listed number; 212.5 feels 5-7 points too high; I’m on the under.
Added plays explanation: The Warriors may not ALWAYS win the third quarter, especially since Boston knows it’s coming and eventually they have to stumble (and this feels like the spot), but GS should no doubt push the pace. Since we expect the Warriors to be trailing at the half and in need of a spark, we should see the same old Golden State push after halftime and that usually creates a higher total than usual. That is, as only as Boston decides to score more than 15 points.
Props – Execute at your own discretion:

  • First 3pt FG Made: Boston (-121)
  • Marcus Smart over 13.5 pts (-114)
  • Kevon Looney over 8.5 reb (-126)
  • Al Horford over 1.5 threes (-115)
  • Jaylen Brown over 2.5 threes (-130)
  • Klay Thompson over 20 pts (-110)
MLB Picks:
Cubs (-125), 1.25 units to win 1
Going back to the well with CHC. The Cubs were one of our more confident plays yesterday with Thompson on the mound and, well, they blew it. I still believe in Stroman and although he got whacked in his last start, he’s long due for a better performance. This isn’t a bad spot today in Baltimore; he doesn’t have to be perfect against the O’s lineup and the Cubbies bats should be able to get on the board against a vulnerable Lyles (4.50 ERA, 5.10 xERA).
LAD -1.5 (-105), 1.5 units
Cueto is a beast but so is Gonsolin, and when’s the last time we’ve seen LAD get shut out? Actually we saw it recently when the Nats got that weird 1-0 win in Washington on May 25. What happened in LAD’s next contest? A 14-1 smashing in Arizona. Dodgers get revenge tonight.

Course/ Tournament History:

The RBC Canadian Open was on hold during the 2020 and 2021 seasons due to the pandemic. However, with a new course rota system in play, St. George’s Golf and Country Club will host this years tournament. The Canadian Open was first played 118 years ago, in 1904. It is the third oldest continuously running tournament on the PGA Tour.

St. George’s Golf and Country Club has hosted the Canadian Open six times. The last time they hosted the RBC Canadian Open, in 2010, Carl Pettersson won. He also shot a tournament-record 60 in the third round. Since then, the course has underwent two renovations.

In 2014, all 18 greens were reconstructed to replicate their original profiles. The surfaces were changed from Bentgrass Poa Annua mix to Creeping Bentgrass. In addition to the green renovations, the fairways were also widened. Five years later, all bunkers were rebuilt with Pro Angle sand.

This tournament also features some cool side attractions. Hole 16 is referred to as “The Rink” which is a Par 3 that’s surrounded by hockey boards and features luxury boxes referred to as “Penalty Boxes.” TheScore Bet, will also make their presence known with a first-of-its-kind on course viewing experience. They’ll bring fans up in a ride of some sort over 100 feet in the air that overlooks the 1st and 18th holes at St. Georges.

Most tournament wins: Leo Diegel (4); 1924, 1925, 1928, 1929

72-Hole Record: 258, Rory McIlroy (2019)

18-Hole Record: 60, Carl Pettersson (3rd round, 2010 at St. George’s G&CC)

Course Guide/ Scorecard:

St. George’s Golf and Country Club is a short Par 70 measuring just over 7,000 yards. It features five par 3’s, ten par 4’s, and three par 5’s. Despite the fairways being widened during their two renovations, they are still relatively tight. Most of the fairways are also tree lined placing an emphasis on accuracy off the tee. Looking at it from a layout prospective, most of the holes are relatively straight meaning players will try to take advantage of the short par 4’s off the tee. The main defense for the course comes into play around the green. With over 100 bunkers in play this weekend and small greens, approach play will be a key to victory.

Key Statistics:

  • Strokes Gained: Approach
  • Strokes Gained: Tee to Green
  • Strokes Gained: Putting (Bentgrass)
  • Strokes Gained: Off the Tee
  • Par 3 Scoring: 200-225 Yards
  • Par 4 Scoring: 450-500 Yards

The Field/ Odds:

We have a great field for this weeks event despite the US Open taking place next weekend. Five of the top-10 players in the OWGR are set to take on St. George’s.

Justin Thomas (+700), is one of the co-favorites this week. Two weeks ago he won the PGA Championship but struggled in his next start missing the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge. In his last 10 starts, he has finished T-10 or better in six of those events.

Scottie Scheffler (+700), is another co-favorite this week. He has won four times on Tour this season headlined by his victory at Augusta. Following back to back wins at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play and the Masters, he has finished inside the top 20 in three of his last four starts. In his last start at the Charles Schwab Challenge he finished 2nd.

Rory McIlroy (+900) won the Canadian Open in 2019 the last time it was held. He’s been playing some solid golf as of late finishing inside the top 20 in each of his last four starts. Three of those finishes were inside the top 10. Despite those great finishes, he has yet to win an event this season.

Cameron Smith (+1000), won THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP earlier this season and has been on a tear since. Following his victory at TPC Sawgrass he would go on to finish T3 at the Masters Tournament. Since then he has made the cut in three of four starts and finished T21 or better in those events.

Notable Withdraws: Patrick Reed, Luke List, Adam Schnek, Pat Perez, Chez Reavie, Taylor Pendrith, Jared Wolfe, Kevin Chappell

Picks (Outright):

  • Matthew Fitzpatrick (+1800) – BetMGM (FINISHED: T10)
    • Risk 0.45 to win 8.10 Units

Fitzpatrick is either hit or miss and last week at Colonial, he struggled missing the cut posting a 74-73 in the first two rounds. Despite the missed cut, he still gained strokes on approach. He’s one of the best iron players on Tour and I think we see him compete here at St. Georges come Sunday.

  • Tyrrell Hatton (+2800) – BetMGM (FINISHED: MC)
    • Risk 0.29 to win 8.12 Units

Hatton has made the cut in each of his last ten tournaments. During that span, his best finish was T2 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He hasn’t played since the PGA Championship but gained strokes in every major category in that tournament. Hatton is a solid approach and short game putter. Last time we saw this course Rory putted extremely well to win and he currently ranks 2nd in SG: Putting.

  • Chris Kirk (+5000) – BetMGM (FINISHED: T7)
    • Risk 0.16 to win 8.00 Units

Kirk had an off week last week at the Memorial Tournament. He’s usually a great iron player but lost strokes on approach for the first time in two weeks. Prior to Colonial, he finished T15 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and T5 at the PGA Championship. I think he rebounds here at a course where great iron play is required to win.

Total Risk on Outrights: 0.90 Units

Picks (Top 20):

Going with two Canadian’s this week given their approach play. They also rank highly in both par 3 and par 4 categories mentioned above.

  • Corey Conners (+100) – Caesars (FINISHED: 6)
    • Risk 1.00 to win 1.00 Units

Since missing the cut at the Genesis Invitational, Connors has made the cut in eight of his past nine starts. He most recently missed the cut at the PGA Championship but rebounded well at the Memorial Tournament finishing T13. He’s ranks 8th in SG: Off the Tee, 37th in SG: Approach, and 21st in SG: Tee to Green. With the layout this week, he ranks 18th in Par 4 Scoring and 61st in Par 3 Scoring.

  • Adam Hadwin (+185) – FanDuel (FINISHED: T35)
    • Risk 1.00 to win 1.85 Units

Hadwin has been trending in the right direction after missing the cut at the AT&T Byron Nelson. In his past two tournaments he finished T71 then T18. He currently ranks 18th in SG: Around the Green, 30th in SG: Approach, and 37th in SG: Tee to Green. Given all of the par 3’s this week, he ranks well in terms of Par 3 scoring (13th).

Total Risk on Top 20: 2.00 Units

Picks (Top 40):

  • CT Pan (+105) – FanDuel (WITHDREW)
    • Risk 1.00 to win 1.05 Units

CT Pan is a great Par 3 player ranking 22nd in Scoring Average. He’s not long off the tee but with the layout that won’t be as big of a factor this week. Pan ranks 41st in SG: Approach, 58th in SG: Around the Green, and 52nd in SG: Tee to Green. He has also made the cut in his last seven tournaments.

Total Risk on Top 40: 1.00 Units

Total Risk on the RBC Canadian Open: 3.90 Units

NHL Free Play – June 7

New York Rangers @ Tampa Bay Lightning 8:00 PM ET

Another round of a heavy weight battle takes place in Tampa tonight. Can the Rangers take a commanding 3-1 lead in the series to try to close it out at home in game 5? Will the Lightning come up with another big game to even the series at 2?

Home ice has played well through the playoffs so far this year. Tampa Bay is 5-1 at home. The Rangers are 2-6 on the road. Let’s not forget a stellar performance in game 7 last round against Carolina though.

This game is fairly evenly matched and in most areas too close to call who has the advantage. That’s one reason we’ve seen such tight games, especially the last two games. I can’t pick a side here. My lean on the total would be O5.5, but it’s not strong enough to where I want to play it.

The story line has been all about Shesterkin and Vasilevskiy, and for good reason. When these two live up to their potential they are out of their minds good. So why not highlight the best matchup in the game, or at least part of it. Let’s focus on goalie props here.

The New York Rangers on offense are putting up 32.06 shots per game in the playoffs. The Tampa Bay Lightning are giving up 33.00 shots per game in these playoffs so far on defense.

The Lightning on offense are putting up 33.07 shots per game, where the Rangers are giving up a whopping 39.24 shots per game.

Vasilevskiy’s save prop is at 27.5 juiced to the over at -120.

Shesterkin’s save prop is at 33.5 juiced slightly to the under at -115.

Strome and Goodrow are both expected to play tonight for the Rangers after blocking shots in game 3 to put them on the injury report. The question becomes how effective will they be on both the offensive end and the defensive end on the second and fourth lines respectively. How that would reflect in the shot for total I’m not sure. It could mean they give up even more shots to the Lightning here if they are a bit injured and a couple steps slow.

There are no changes tonight for the Lightning.

Shesterkin has faced 39 or more shots in 4 of the last 5 games. He has saved 37 or more shots in those same 4 of 5 games. Tampa will want to put pressure on the Rangers here early to see if they can get an early home advantage. I don’t see Tampa coming out conservatively here.

We’re getting decent value here with a team that shoots a lot and another that gives up a lot of shots. It will once again come down to the goalie’s to see who reigns supreme in the series by the end of the night.

Take Shesterkin O33.5 saves -110 1U

NHL Playoff Preview & Picks – June 7th, 2022

Tampa Bay looks to even up the series tonight at home. The Rangers have struggled on the road this post season going 2-6. On the other hand, the Lightning have been solid at the home going 5-1 in the playoffs. The biggest difference between the home/away splits has been the goaltending.

At home Andrei Vasilevskiy has a 1.91 GAA and .942 SV% but on the road he has a 3.03 GAA and .906%. Igor Shesterkin has also been great at home with a 2.04 GAA and .948 SV% and struggled on the road with a 3.44 GAA and .904 SV%.

Tampa Bay Lightning @ New York Rangers (Series: NYR 2-1)

Side Line Movement

The Lightning are currently -170 on the moneyline for tonight’s matchup. They have been favorited in every game of this series. However, they aren’t as big of a favorite as they were in Game 3.

Total Line Movement

The total for Game 4 is the same as it has been in every game of this series, 5.5. The under has also been juiced in game as well. After the over hit in Game 1 of this series but, the under has hit in back to back games.

Trends

  • Under is 7-1 in Tampa Bays last 8 overall
  • Under is 4-1 in New York’s last 5 road games
  • New York is 1-6 in their last 7 games as a road underdog

Game 4 Breakdown

So far the home team has won each of the first three games. In every game of this series, the Lighting have had more expected goals. However, as I mentioned before, the reason the Rangers have won two of three is due to their goaltending.

In Game 3 we saw two Rangers suffer injuries, Ryan Strome and Barclay Goodrow. Both guys would finish the game and are expected to be good to go for tonight’s game. Tampa Bay’s Brayden Point remains out with no real time table for return but has on the ice skating.

The Lightning have been dominant at home all post season and I see that trend continuing here tonight. They have a 5-1 record at home, with four of those five wins coming in regulation. Historically home ice in the NHL playoffs hasn’t been as big of an advantage as other sports. However, with the Lightning and Rangers, home ice seems to mean everything. While the Bolts moneyline is a bit higher than I’m comfortable playing, I do think they get the win in 60 minutes.

Game Prop Breakdown

1st Period Both Teams to Score (+220/-310)

In the first two games of this series, both teams scored in the first period. However, in Game 3 neither team scored.

Both Teams to Score at Least 2 Goals (-130/+100)

This prop has hit in all three games of this series.

Player Prop Breakdown

Chris Kreider 0.5 points (-130/+100)

Chris Kreider has tallied over 0.5 points in each of his last five games. However, he’s recorded under 0.5 points in three of his last five games on the road.

Mika Zibanejad 0.5 points (-175/+135)

Chris Kreider has tallied over 0.5 points in each of his last five games. He’s also recorded over 0.5 points in three of his last five games on the road.

Adam Fox 0.5 points (-185/+150)

Chris Kreider has tallied over 0.5 points in each of his last five games. He’s also recorded over 0.5 points in three of his last five games on the road.

Filip Chytil 1.5 shots on goal (-185/+145)

Filip Chytil has recorded over 1.5 shots on goal in each of his last five games. He’s also gone over this number in three of his last five games on the road.

Alex Killorn 0.5 points (+115/-145)

Alex Killorn hasn’t recorded a single point in each of his last five games. He’s also gone under this number in four of his last five games at home.

Andrei Vasilevskiy 27.5 saves (-120/-105)

Andrei Vasilevskiy has gone over this number in six of the last seven games. He’s also recorded over 27.5 saves in each of his last three games at home. The Rangers only average 28.13 shots on goal away from home but recorded 30 last game.

Victor Hedman 0.5 Plus/Minus (+130/-165)

Victor Hedman has had a positive plus/minus in every game at home this post season besides one. The Lightning have a much better goal differential at home while the Rangers have a negative goal differential on the road.

Picks

  • [0.50u] TB Lighting in Regulation (-110) – DraftKings
  • [0.25u] Andrei Vasilevskiy over 27.5 saves (-120) – DraftKings
  • [0.25u] Victor Hedman Plus/Minus Over 0.5 (+130) – DraftKings

June 7th MLB Plays

I endured an 0-2 night to start the week, but I still remain +15.26u over the last 29 days. I’m rolling with 3 plays for tonight looking to bounce back strong. To receive a text when I release/add any plays, join my Telegram group!

*MLB(1u): Tigers/Pirates UNDER 7(+100)–6:05 PM CT

Pirates SP Jose Quintana is enjoying a renaissance season at age 33, coming into tonight’s start with a 2.32 ERA. While he’ll almost certainly see that ERA climb towards the 4.00 range by season’s end, this is a very manageable matchup facing off with a Tigers offense that has scored the least amount of runs in the league. Considering the Tigers have belted just 30 home runs this season(last in MLB) and rank 27th in OPS vs left-handed pitching, Quintana should be able to keep the line moving tonight. With that said, Tigers SP Tarik Skubal has been nothing short of brilliant this year in his own right. Not only does the lefty hold a 2.15 ERA and sub-1.00 WHIP, but a FIP at 2.01 suggests this hot start is sustainable. Skubal has allowed just 0.31 HR/9 this year and will match up against a Pirates offense that is clearly a bottom 5 offense in the league. The Tigers bullpen ranks 2nd in bullpen WHIP, and with a 2 month sample, I think you have to treat them as a top-of-the-line unit. While the Pirates bullpen is a little more shaky, Quintana should offer some longevity in this matchup, and I don’t mind trusting the back-end of Pittsburgh’s ‘pen against this abysmal Detroit offense. I like the full game Under here.

*MLB(1u): Cardinals/Rays F5 OVER 4(-110)–6:10 PM CT

Rays SP Jeffrey Springs has great overall numbers this year, but he has become much more hittable since becoming a full-time starter in the beginning of May. He’s striking out 3 batters less per 9 innings than he did in 2021 as a reliever and sees his FIP 1.5 points higher than his ERA, a signal that regression is in his future. This is a very tough matchup facing off against a Cardinals offense that ranks 3rd in OPS vs left-handed pitching and enters this game in solid current form. On the other side, however, I am licking my chops at the chance to fade Cardinals SP Dakota Hudson. Hudson might hold a 2.96 ERA, but a WHIP at 1.32 shows there is quite a bit to unfold. Hudson has left 81% of runners on base this year which keeps his ERA low, but he’s striking out less than 5 batters per 9 innings and walking over 4 per 9 innings. When you add in that Hudson’s luck has historically run out when he’s not in Busch Stadium, I see tonight as a great chance for the Rays to get after Hudson early in this game. The Rays bullpen coming off a day of rest keeps me off this full game Under, but I like each of these offense’s chances against the respective SP’s.

*MLB(1u): Braves -1.5(-120) vs Athletics–6:20 PM CT

Braves SP Kyle Wright has seemed to put it all together in his age 26 season; he comes into tonight’s start with a 2.41 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 10 K/9, and 0.45 HR/9. The A’s offense ranks dead last in OPS vs right-handed pitching this year, and I expect that to continue given they simply don’t have the jimmy’s and joe’s on that roster. Wright is a power arm who should be able to completely overmatch this offense tonight. The Braves bullpen also comes off a day of rest and has been an effective unit this year(7th in Bullpen WHIP). Athletics SP Cole Irvin is another guy whose sub-3.00 ERA is a bit deceiving due to holding a WHIP above 1.2. Irvin’s soft-handed nature can play nicely against certain lineups, but the Braves rank 4th in OPS vs left-handed pitching this year and have averaged over 7 runs/game over this current win streak. While I believe the A’s bullpen is slightly better than their numbers might indicate, it’s still a bottom 10 bullpen in the game. These are two teams heading in opposite directions; while I usually don’t like laying a ton of juice on run lines, the price is somewhat irrelevant for me in this matchup. Braves keep it rolling tonight.
