The Blue Jays have gone on quite a run in September to put themselves squarely in the Wild Card race, but I’ve seen signs that indicate this team is starting to come back down to earth. They’ve scored 4 runs each of their past 2 games; that is certainly respectable, but it’s also nowhere near some of the outputs they were putting out earlier in the month. The Rays have one of the best pitching staffs in all of baseball, and they have the advantage on the bump once again today. Rays SP Luis Patino has had an up-and-down rookie campaign, but he has been much more consistent pitching at Tropicana Field. The Jays will rely on Ross Stripling to get the bulk of their outs today; with a FIP at 5.10 and a HR/9 at 2.0, the Rays should be able to tee off. From there, the bullpen advantage swings heavily in Tampa Bay’s favor. It’s hard to bet against team’s like Toronto who score runs at will, but the Rays are the more complete ball club.
Man this total seems super fishy, and I’ve been getting burned going against the juice lately. Looking at the rosters, other than Heyward being out I’m not sure why this total sits at 8. Neither pitcher has been consistently good in their last five starts, both giving up plenty of runs. Wind looks to be blowing in tonight at Wrigley, so maybe not great hitting conditions.
Cubs have gone over 7 of their L8. MIN has been leaning towards the over 6 of their L10 and that was with 6 games against the sometimes anemic CLE offense. Both these teams have young talent that can hit the ball. Because this line looks trappy I’ll keep the play closer to one unit, but I still think it’s worth the unit.
Tuesday card has the National League TOTAL of the Month headlining the MLB Card. Serie A Italian Soccer League Play below.
The Serie A Play is on Atalanta at 2:45 eastern. They have controlled the series with Calcio with 10 wins and 5 draws. They are at home here off a close road win. Calcio sits in 12th in the table and have lost the last two to Roma and Torino. Under new Management they play a strict defense first style of play which will be tested here against an Atalanta team that has the core of a top level scoring squad that beat Calcio 5-1 here last time they played here. This shapes up for a home win as Atalanta bags 3 points. On Tuesday the MLB Card is up and the headliner play is our National League Total of the Month backed with a September Specific Totals System. It may not sound contrarian, but with 68% of the money on PHI+3, I’m looking for SF to cover this one. I understand there are some injuries on the SF side with some injuries to the DBs, LB, and RB. With regard to that, my numbers still have this game lined exactly with SF at -3. So then it is just a matter of choosing the right side.
I see value on SF here due to the success with staying on the East Coast in past seasons on B2B East Coast games. Looking at the coaches, Shannahan is proven. PHI coach Sirianni had his team looking great in Week 1, but Shannahan will not be caught with his pants down like the ATL coach seemed.
I liked PHI to win their division coming into the season and I’m high on PHI QB Hurts. They could’ve won easily in that last game against WAS last season if Hurts stays in. Regardless, after the 49ers struggles last season, Shannahan rallied his thin roster for competitve games throughout the second half. PHI did upset SF on the west coast last year and Shannahan doesn’t seem like the type to let that go easily. I’m looking for SF to come out aggressive, stay afoot in the NFC West, and won’t let off the pedal like he did last week. Would not be surprised if Philly is competitive but I like SF for the game.

Buffalo vs Miami +3.5 O/U 47.5
This is an interesting line because I don’t think that either of these teams had gotten worse since last year, I think both teams improved some yet this line says that Buffalo is about 6 point better on a neutral field. Now I know that some of that Steelers score is a bit misleading, but at this time of year, I am not sure who wants to back the Bills going into the heat and humidity this time of year in Miami. know that Buffalo fans Travel well to Miami normally, but they also aren’t exactly escaping winter quite yet. Miami’s defense looked really good in New England and I have to think they will step their game up once again so they aren’t the odd team out of the playoffs at 10 wins. There is some serious motivation here for the fish and Tua knows that he has to show that he is the leader of this team. My Power ratings have this game Buffalo -1.75 points so I am on the Miami side here.
Miami +3.5 for 2.5 stars
Rams vs Indianapolis Colts +4 O/U 48
It’s over-reaction week and there is no more of a perfect game that fits the bill than Indianapolis hosting the LA Rams. I think that this line is an overreaction on both sides. The Colts did look pretty bad vs the Seahawks but even though they lost by 12, they were only about 50 yards different from the Seahawks form the box score, and Russell Wilson is a whole different animal than Matthew the ‘statue’ Stafford. (You like that?) The threat of the run will just not be there. On the other side of the coin, the Bears blew it in the red zone last week in LA with a tipped pass pick and they also were able to march down the field pretty easily against this supposedly great Rams defense. Bears RB David Montgomery had over 100 yards on 16 carries and Henderson only had 70 yards on 16 carries showing some weakness with the Rams run defense similar to last year. Take away those two monster plays against the Bears over the top and we have a very close game. f the Colts can clean up their secondary and get to Stafford some, they could make a game out of this and we also can’t forget the sandwich spot that the Rams are in. LA has Superbowl champion Tampa Bay next week and I think that they might be thinking about that more than destroying this Colts team. I have this game closer to Rams -1 here so I will grab the Colts +4 for a great value.
Colts +4 – 2 stars
OUR REFUSE TO LOSE TEASER IS 1-0 so far! 6PT tease the Packers to -5 with the Jets to +12 – 2 stars
*3 Star Free Play on Chiefs -3.5* The Baltimore Ravens have major injury problems right now. Baltimore is without Marcus Peters in the secondary and Jimmy Smith is questionable with an injury. You don’t want to be down key guys in the secondary when going up against Patrick Mahomes.
Baltimore is without their top two running backs in JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards. The Ravens are also banged up badly on the offensive line. Lamar Jackson doesn’t have nearly the help around him that he had last season.
Kansas City has beaten Baltimore soundly in the past, and I think they do it again. The Ravens blitz Mahomes too often, and we know Mahomes is a master against the blitz. If they try blitzing this much again without key guys in the secondary, the Chiefs are going to hit several big plays.
Baltimore had a short week to prepare, and the Ravens are just outclassed in their current state.
Take Kansas City.
