The Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners finish up their 3- set today at T-Mobile Park. Rookie right-hander Tanner Houck will get the nod for the BoSox. He is 0-4 with a 3-54 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 53.1 innings pitched this season. Since the break, Houck has pitched excellent owning a 3.35 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, an on par .302 BABIP, 3.09 FIP and 3.76 xFIP in 43 innings. Lefty Marco Gonzales will take the mound for the M’s. He posts a 8-5 record with a 4.03 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 118.1 innings this year. Gonazales has posted an outstanding 2.34 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in the second half of the season, however, it doesn’t look like that will last much longer as he owns a very low .219 BABIP and very high 5.23 xFIP in the past 61.2 innings pitched. Look for Gonzales to regress back to the mean and that should start today against one of the top offenses in the league. The Red Sox rank in the top 5in the majors in hits (124), batting average (.271), OPS (.811) and wOBA (.344) in the past 2 weeks while Seattle ranks in the bottom 3rd of the league in those same stats in the same 14 day timeframe. Additionally, Boston has scored the 2nd most runs this season versus left-handed pitching while the Mariners rank dead last in hits (324), batting average (.215) and wOBA (.292) against righties at home this season. I have Houck earning his first win of the season while the Red Sox bats assist in Gonzales’ negative regression. Take the Red Sox -121

September 15th MLB Pick

*MLB(1u): Cardinals F5 ML(+145) @ Mets–6:10 PM CT

Put the stats aside for a second. This matchup will feature a rookie SP who has zero experience in playoff atmospheres; he’ll pitch opposite a 3x World Series champion SP who has excelled pitching in crucial moments late in the season. When that veteran is catching this much value as an underdog, you can bet I’m going to try to find a way to back him and his team. That guy is Jon Lester, and while he’s had a rough season overall, he seems to have turned a corner just in time to push his team into the postseason. In his last 4 starts, Lester has allowed just 4 runs in 23.2 IP; 3 of those 4 starts came against the Brewers or Reds. I don’t know what to tell you if you’re still trying to trust this Mets offense; they are atrocious. While Mets SP Tylor Megill has been reliable over his 15 starts as a rookie(4.06 ERA, 1.20 WHIP), he has had some trouble giving up the home run ball(1.7 HR/9 this season). The Cardinals have come out of nowhere over the last month and find themselves in prime position for a Wild Card spot; they are not a team I want to bet against right now. With everything I laid out, the Cardinals are simply getting too much value for me to pass up. I’ll play them in the F5 because I want nothing to do with either of these bullpens.

September 15th Premium MLB Pick

*MLB(1.5u): Red Sox TT OVER 4.5(+100) @ Mariners–3:10 PM CT

These teams find themselves in a battle for an AL Wild Card spot, with Boston currently 3 games ahead of the Mariners. These teams have split the first two games of this 3 game set, but luckily for Boston, I think they’ll have an advantageous matchup at the plate today. Seattle SP Marco Gonzales has turned a corner as of late, but overall this season has pitched below expectations. It’s important to note that he has faced just 1 opponent currently in the playoff race in his last 12 starts. Basically, he has drawn the easiest of matchups for about 2.5 months; while that helps his overall stats, it also leaves him unprepared entering this start against a dangerous Red Sox lineup. Even with Gonzales’s recent success, his FIP is still 1.35 runs higher than his ERA due to the fact that he has gotten lucky in leaving 82% of baserunners stranded. The Red Sox order is filled with righties who have had past success against Gonzales, and considering they’ve scored 12 runs through the first 2 games in this series, I’m willing to trust them in this spot tonight. While the Seattle bullpen has performed well this season, I do expect them to regress over the last few weeks of the season. Many of these guys have been asked to pitch in extended roles for about 2 months now, and I simply don’t think that’s sustainable. At even-money, I’m all over the Red Sox TT as my best bet tonight.

Free Pick: Giants at the Football Team – September 16, 2021

Giants QB Daniel Jones getting sacked while he tries to throw the ball.

As you may know by now, we went 8-5 for +10 units in Week 1 Premium Plays! Hit me up on Twitter or Instagram if you have any questions and consider a premium NFL season package by clicking this link! Here’s my take on Thursday Night’s NFC East battle:

Giants/Football Team 1H under 20 (-110), 1.5 units: The Giants are all over social media because of how few wins they’ve had over the last 3 years. In fact, the Giants haven’t had a winning record since 2016. In fact, in fact, in fact (and as a fan it literally pains me to type this), the Giants are the ONLY team in the NFL to not have a winning record the last 3 seasons. And 2021 started the same way. My feelings and hopes for the Giants are not high, if that’s not abundantly clear, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be competitive Thursday night. Despite all their failures in recent history, NYG has won 5 straight games against Washington. That means they haven’t lost against the Football Team in about 3 years. Now the Football Team has had mediocre QB play for awhile– Kyle Allen, Dwayne Haskins, and Kirk Cousins didn’t often succeed against Big Blue either. But the Giants defense, as we’ve seen over their last 17 games, is very formidable. Last week’s game got away from them– Denver scored at will in the second half and gained over 400 yards, but that has me thinking NYG’s defense will experience some positive regression. They have a lot of talent on that side of the ball. Washington’s defense should experience the same thing. I was less than impressed by the Football Team’s front 7 and secondary against Justin Herbert last week. Of course Herbert is, in my mind, easily a top 10 quarterback already, so playing against the 2nd year star is no easy task. Washington should dominate the line of scrimmage against the Giants’ O-line (so please, for God’s sake, don’t start Saquon this week) and make life very difficult for Daniel Jones. Taylor Heinicke looked pretty good replacing Fitzpatrick in Week 1, but we’d be silly to think he’s going to run amuck over the Giants defense. My mind (not my heart) wants to go with the Giants at +3.5 since they’ve owned Washington in recent history, but I just can’t do it. NYG just looked so BAD last week. The under is 14-3 in Giants last 17 games overall and this is an NFC East rivalry; typically NFC East battles are notorious for back-and-forth, boring defensive battles, and I suspect TNF won’t be much different. Both teams historically start slow but they could pick up their tempo in the second half, so that scares me away from a full game total sitting at 40.5. I’ll grab the first half under for 1.5 units.

MLB Total Bet- 9/14- MIL at DET

I’ve been cooling lately in MLB as maybe the sharps are the only ones left in the MLB market. Fading the $ and chasing the plus money has been my mistake of late. So fade me if you like. On to the game-

It’s hard to look at any overs with this MIL team considering that pitching staff but I’m liking the over in this one tonight in Detroit.  To avoid that shut down bullpen I’m looking to the OV 4.5 (-115) for the F5, and here’s why…

-Both of these pitchers have not done well in the last month

-Both teams are top 10 in Runs v RHP

-MIL 2nd and DET 13th in BA v RHP

-MIL 6-4 O/U L10

-DET 8-3-1 O/U L12

-Decent weather for hitting conditions tonight

MIL/ DET OV 4.5 (-115) 1.15u

Giants' starting pitcher Anthony DeSclafani, celebrating at the mound.

San Diego vs San Francisco -172 O/U 9

So this handicap should not be very complicated at all.   The Giants are 2.5 games ahead of the Dodgers and they can see the division light at the end of the tunnel.  San Diego on the other hand is trying to hold on to wildcard life being +5 games over .500 but their issue is that they have one of the most overrated pitcher in baseball on the mound tonight.   As a Cubs fan, I know too well that Jake Arrieta is a shell of himself pitching at a 6.09 FIP this year and only 6.5 strike outs per 9.   I shall never eat Kale again.  Anthony Desclafini on the other hand for the Giants has been dealing.  3.75 FIP with an 8.45 Ks/9 innings.   Looking the hitting/base running, the Padres have greatly regressed down to 15th in wRC+ while the Giants are 4th!   This is a no brainer for me.  Grab the Giants 1st 5 -.5

Giants 1st 5 -.5 _130 – 2 stars

Free Pick: Ravens at Raiders – September 13, 2021

Lamar Jackson going in for a running touchdown against the Raiders.

Our Premium NFL Picks went 6-4 and premiums went 12-8 overall this weekend for +12 units– not too shabby! That’s what we do at TheOddsBreakers– we win and make YOU money! Sign up here or DM me on Twitter for a full season package!

Raiders +4 (-110), 1.5 units: There’s a lot of reasons to like the Raiders tonight, and much of it has to do with the Ravens. Before we get into that, let’s look at some sharp angles that automatically have us favoring Chuckie’s (Gruden, to the layperson) team:

  • The game is at Vegas and Allegiant Stadium will have full fans for the first time ever. Like the Golden Knights, one should expect a rather raucous and unique atmosphere and also like the Knights, I expect it’ll make a difference.
  • The Raiders are yet another home underdog. Home dogs went 4-2 ATS Sunday.
  • Home crowds usually help a defense– the Raiders will need that tonight.

I’m not one to understate what Lamar Jackson is capable of. All the Ravens QB does is win– he’s 34-12 all time as the Ravens’ starter; that’s a 74% win rate over the past 3 seasons. Needless to say, that’s freakin’ impressive. The issue with the Ravens’ offense is that we’ve seen it before. Everyone has seen it before. And although it’s mostly worked, I think their offense is less talented heading into the 2021 season.

Baltimore’s receivers are small. Sammy Watkins (is he considered their #1 receiver? Honestly, we’re not sure..) is their tallest guy at 6’1″ and it drops off from there. Of course big Mark Andrews is 6’5″ 250 plus, but he can’t catch every ball in the red zone, can he (maybe, he’s a beast)? Watkins and Marquise Brown and Duvernay and others are all long-ball guys. Oh and in case you haven’t heard, they’re absolutely depleted at running back. Ty’Son Williams, the undrafted RB from BYU, will apparently start for Baltimore Monday night. He’s the only RB who’s been on their roster before last Wednesday. Le’Veon Bell and Latavius Murray will back him up, but I can only imagine how little they know the playbook at this point. Baltimore is typically built to run the ball and dominate time of possession, but I’m not sure that they can expect the same production early this year.

Now let’s talk about the Raiders. For all they have to improve upon, and it’s a lot, this is a perfect setup for Jon Gruden. Gruden loves to motivate his players for big games at the start of a new season. The Raiders have hope and they’re in a huge market with a lot of fanfare in that new stadium– I have to think Chuckie will capitalize. And for what it’s worth, Vegas has won the past two season openers under Gruden. The Raiders’ defense will have issues defending Lamar tonight, no doubt, but I think their offense can keep them in the game. Baltimore’s #1 Cornerback, Marcus Peters, went down with an ACL tear in practice earlier last week. Anthony Averett, a 3rd year corner out of Alabama with limited experience, will replace Peters. Expect Derek Carr and Gruden to expose that matchup.

The Raiders were top 10 in nearly every offensive category this year. Their defense is their weakness, but if they can improve that even slightly and limit Lamar for moments during this contest, they’ll have a legitimate advantage with a wild Vegas crowd, an inspired head coach, and a very capable offense. The Raiders are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 Monday games; I’ll take the home team in the new Black Hole!

Rob Vinciletti: Monday MLB Power System Play

Monday card has a Rare 6* NFL Side with a week 1 Monday night System that is Undefeated. A.L. East Total Of The Month headlines MLB. Comp play below.

The MLB Comp Play for Monday is on the Houston Astros at 8:05 eastern. Houston fits a nice Road favored system pertaining to Septembers and has hit 88% since 2004 for teams off a -200 or higher home favored win vs an opponent that was a road dog last out. The Asttos have also won 5 of the last 6 vs teams that are .400 or less. Texas has dropped 36 of 31 in game 1 of a series and 5 of 6 at home vs a winning team. Odorizzi has final started to pitch well as he has allowed 2 or less in 4 straight starts 3 of which were wins. See us at goldencontender@aol.com or on Facebook/Twitter to jump on. Look for Houston to take the opener. Rob V- Golden Contender Sports.
